Jared Leto Dedicates Oscar to LGBT People and Those Who Have Lost Battle with AIDS: VIDEO

Award_leto

Jared Leto won the Best Supporting Actor for his role as a transgender woman with AIDS in Dallas Buyers Club and took a few moments in his speech to make a statement about political issues, and LGBT people.

Said Leto:

“To all the dreamers out there all around the world watching this tonight, in places like the Ukraine and Venezuela, I want to say, we are here, and as you struggle to make your dreams happen, to live the impossible, we’re thinking of you tonight.”

He added:

"And this is for the 36 million people who have lost the battle to AIDS and to those of you out there who have ever felt injustice because of who you are or who you love. I stand here in front of the world with you and for you."

  2. She should come out as trans, it's clear she doesn't want to accept her male identity, she looks more like that bearded woman from Austria

  7. Jesus wins an Oscar. That' who Jared looks like. And it' meant as a compliment. He was very kind, caring, insightful and humble.
Congratulations Jared for your Oscar win and one of the best acceptance speeches ever!

  8. Letos' speech was great, and he's obviously more secure in his sexuality than Litper ever will be.

BTW why are they standing up? That version of Over the Rainbow was dreadful.

  9. Really would've liked to have seen him spend some time actually talking about trans women instead of political issues completely unrelated to his role..

  10. Jesus and Jared were both penisless creatures; all the homophobic bisexuals here are praising these transgendered women

    Posted by: litper | Mar 2, 2014 10:43:09 PM

  11. Trans people are still out to get hime because he is a biological male.

    Posted by: Ryan | Mar 2, 2014 10:45:00 PM

  12. @Ryan she looks like a woman and she says she likes women, she's a trans lesbian

    Posted by: litper | Mar 2, 2014 10:52:12 PM

  13. Litper and Ryan, aren't you tired? Really, aren't you tired of being such negative people all the time? It must be exhausting to be so full of bile and sadness all of the time. I feel sorry for you.

  14. And litter, oops I mean lipter, is a KS lesion. A veritable cancer that is ugly and loathesome. Please go get cured.

  15. Are you guys really so dull & serious you can't appreciate a little politically incorrect humor? Thanks Litper and Ryan. Ignore the priggish queens with the bugs up their asses.

  16. Jarod should have shared some of his tips on how to write an acceptance speech with Matthew. Both had well-deserved wins, but MM went into some self-affirming riff than had nothing to do with the movie when handed the Oscar.

  17. Well deserved. He deserved a nomination for Requiem for a Dream.

  18. GAH! It's not "the" Ukraine. It's really not. Unless you are trying to make it sound like just a territory of Russia and not a sovereign state. Figure it out, Leto.

  19. This years Oscars were especially gay. It's no surprise that Russia's Channel One (state run) refused to run it live and put it on tape for late night. All that gay propaganda is illegal in Russia.

  20. LITPERS comments have some small value in that they finally show that I can skip him.

Leto's speech, in its phrasing and clarity, as well as generosity of sentiment, was a good example of spontaneous control and intelligence. I admired it much.

  21. @Narducci:I thought the same thing about his use of "the," but it's better to point out a tragedy in the making than to ignore it.

Also, "the" doesn't have any bearing on a country's sovereignty today. Officially several countries include "the" in their names: The Bahamas, The Gambia, The Maldives (all likely holdovers from colonialism, I'll grant you, and sometimes lower-case, sometimes not). But there's also places like the Republic of Korea, the Netherlands, the Russian Federation, and, umm, the United States (not official parts of their names, but correctly used in conversation nonetheless---though it's obviously incorrect for references to Ukraine since 1991). Using the article for one country doesn't confer dominion to another.

  22. It was wonderful of Leto to acknowledge the many victims of AIDS in his acceptance speech. That was something that apparently didn't occur to Matthew McConaughey, who was too busy making self-congratulatory references to being a hero in 10 years, instead of acknowledging Ron Woodroof, the guy he played in ''Dallas Buyers Club.''

  23. Here we go again, more linking being gay with being transgendered.

And then they wonder why gay athletes are reluctant to come out.

Transsexualism has nothing to do with being gay. We might as well link hermaphrodism with being gay too.

  24. Jared Leto is a jerk. Linking AIDS to homosexuality is disgusting. I'd expect this sort of comment from Pat Robertson and not Jared Leto. You're an idiot, Jared.

  25. Transgenders do not like being gay. They are anti-gay.
