RT Sending Anchor Who Spoke Out Against Russia's Occupation of Ukraine to Crimea

Martin

Russia Today responded to RT anchor Abby Martin's stunning denunciation of Russia's actions in Ukraine in a statement to HuffPost UK:

"Contrary to the popular opinion, RT doesn’t beat its journalists into submission, and they are free to express their own opinions, not just in private but on the air. This is the case with Abby’s commentary on the Ukraine.

"We respect her views, and the views of all our journalists, presenters and program hosts, and there will be absolutely no reprimands made against Ms. Martin.

"In her comment Ms. Martin also noted that she does not possess a deep knowledge of reality of the situation in Crimea. As such we’ll be sending her to Crimea to give her an opportunity to make up her own mind from the epicentre of the story."

  1. And of course, next she'll be visiting Siberia on a long-term assignment.

  5. @Jack M
    No, you do.

The situation is something that she cares about as a journalist, and Crimea is not a war zone, so it's ridiculous to frame it as some kind of punishment.

  6. Eugene: It's not a war zone now, we'll see in the next days.
And anyway there's a lot of violence in Crimea right now, so yes, it sounds like a punishment for expressing her opinions

  11. I would not be going there if I were her, all expenses paid or no.

If it was planned and she was in on it from the beginning though, she should be okay.

But who knows? "Oh, those Russians!"

  13. This woman is no hero. She is a stooge of Putin as RT is Putin's mouthpiece to the west (they only broadcast outside of Russia in English). She believes among other things, that 9-11 was an inside job, In a vast jewish conspiracy against Russia, she is anti floridation. In other words she is a nut job. Even a stopped clock is right twice a day.
