Gay Michigan Woman Assaulted by Man Who Saw Her Marry on the News: REPORT

Washtenaw
A couple marries in Washtenaw county.

A Michigan woman tells police she was assaulted after appearing on the news for her marriage to a woman in Washtenaw County, one of four counties that began marrying same-sex couples after the state's ban was struck down and before a stay was put in place.

WWJ reports:

A 28-year-old lesbian told authorities she was walking home after getting off a bus, Monday evening in Ypsilanti Township, when she was assaulted by three men — one of whom shouted,“Hey b—. Are you that f— from the news?”

The victim told Sheriff’s officials she’d been on TV talking about how she had recently married her partner in Washtenaw County.

The woman said one of the men punched her in the face, knocking her unconscious. She woke up on the ground, she said, to a second man kicking her in her stomach.

The attack happened in the parking lot of an apartment complex and three suspects are wanted:

One of the suspects is described as a white male in his mid-20s, 5 feet 10 inches to 5 feet 11 inches tall and heavy-set, with a low or husky voice. The victim could not provide a description of the other two suspects.

Anyone with information about this crime is asked to call the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s office confidential tip line at 734-973-7711 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK UP. Tipsters may remain anonymous.

  1. Ypsilanti has a high percentage of southerner/rednecks in residence. It's referred to sometimes as Ypsitucky. This is an example of culture clash.

  2. I'm sorry, but who calls a lesbian a "fag?" I am leery that we've got another fake bashing here.

  4. Beating up a woman huh? You know if all those gays on TV, who work in fashion, who work in the industries came out...esp fashion....gay people won't be seen as the other so much but those guys are best friends with bitchy mean women, so they don't give 2'effs about what happens to other gays in Africa or in their own country.

BUT that is where the power lies...the gay behind the scenes in entertainment...Publicists, agents, assistants, fashion designers, interior designers, hairdressers etc etc.....

We need entertainment. If there minute evil selfish brains connected that everything they obsess with-clothes or music-gays are 'needed', it would burst that bubble and at least create some long awaited dialogue.

Andy Cohen only started speaking for gay rights..what like 3 years ago if that? It was combined with him getting front page on media like NY times and The Advocated, so it was so PR related. SMDH.

  5. Rowan, luckily America is all about second chances. Rethink then repost because I have no f-ing idea what the hell you are trying to say.

Anyway, recently Scott Lively (the anti-gay evangelical pastor who is being sued for crimes against humanity, running for governor of Massachusetts and who is the evangelicals' front-man for anti-LGBT legislation and activism in Africa) declared on Bryan Fischer's daily radio hate-fest on American Family Radio that there may have to be a violent revolution in America if gays keeping winning court victories. In fact, Lively has suggested that if Americans do begin to react violently towards gay people, then gay people have only themselves to blame.

Prepare yourselves, ladies and gentlemen, for a possible backlash. Lively is too much of a coward to get out there and do violence himself. But, he's crafty enough to incite others to do his nefarious dirty work, as is Bryan Fischer and the rest of the leadership of the evangelical effluvia that continues to pollute and corrupt America's social- and body-politic.

  6. Michigan is third in hate crimes. Together with CA and NY, they produce more hate crimes than the other 47 states combined. Ypsilanti is a culturally diverse Democrat controlled town.

  7. David, lesbians get called "fag" all the time. Some bigots don't really care to get the terminology correct.

  8. David....you think the term f-g is reserved strictly for gay men? Lesbians and trans get called f-ggots all the time. It's a word used to belittle the entire LGBT community and your lack of awareness is showing.
