Xavier_dolan

25-year-old gay director Xavier Dolan was awared the Jury Prize at Cannes for his fifth effort, the film Mommy. Dolan shared the prize with 83-year-old director Jean-Luc Godard, who was also honored, for his film Goodbye to Language.

We've written about Dolan's film Tom at the Farm when it screened at the Toronto International Film Festival last year. Dolan also directed a controversial video for the French band Indochine which depicted the crucifixion and graphic shooting of a bullied student at a Catholic school. You can see that here.

Dolan spoke with Euronews immediately following the Cannes ceremony.

  4. Really De Moda? He makes a briljant film and You talk about his Earring? Talk about shallow...

  5. Wow, nothing to make this 43yo feel like a loser this afternoon than a 25 kicking ass like this.

    Good for him.

  6. His movies "I killed my mother" and "Heartbeats" were amazing.
    Kudos to him!

  7. I'm sure he'll see many dawns, in many different locations.

  8. Love him so much! His film "Heartbeats" is one of my favorite films of all time. Bravo to him! Finally, the world is catching on to his brilliance.

  9. In a world with the shallowness of people like De Moda one learns to appreciate the depth of people like Xavier Dolan.

  10. DEMODA = AMRYM/GARY/RICK/NOMI. Same troll, different day.

  11. C'mon, Rene. It's just the jury prize, "the third most prestigious award" at Cannes. The kid's a loser.

  12. Well deserved, and with many productive years ahead of him. Unlike some bitter queens here.

  13. His best yet. A beautiful emotional and powerful movie.

  14. Don't know which is more offensive. The official church calling gays "intrinsically disordered" and Tim Donut saying gay couples only entitled to "friendship". And then some religious nuts upset about some little jokes.

  16. Why are there no subtitles? That guy's voice is getting on my nerves and Xavier Dolan is normally very well-spoken. It is the number one annoyance for me when watching American or British news...

  17. Saw "Tom At The Farm." Good premise, good acting - esp by the mother - but lumpy, disjointed execution. Hope his Cannes winner is better

  19. Hated and walked out of "I killed my mother" but loved "Heartbeats", with the ravishing cameo by the dreamy Dreamer ( Michael Pitt had his share so maybe another demonstration of self pleasuring! LOL Eva Green may stay away! UGH) and all...

(A French band named what?! would he do a video for a German band named Auschwitz or Dachau next?! )

    anywhoo, congrats, pretty boy genius!

  21. Littlekiwi,

Were you at the screening of his film Tom at the Farm at the Inside Out festival the other day? It was great.
