Iraq War Vet Kicked Out of Taxi for Kissing Boyfriend: VIDEO

Eric williams

Iraq war veteran Eric Williams was the victim of homophobia July 4th when a Tacoma, Washington, driver allegedly kicked him and his boyfriend out of a cab for sharing a kiss.

Speaking to Q13FOX.com, Williams, who completed two tours in Iraq and was the subject of a Don’t Ask Don’t Tell investigation, said that when the driver asked why they were kissing, he replied “that’s my boyfriend, I’m gay,” at which point the driver pulled off the road and refused to continue the fare.

While Williams says it was just an innocent kiss, the cab driver claims something more intimate was going on and he was offended.

Yellow Cab spokesman Anthony Nix said that the incident is under investigation. If video footage corroborates Williams’s version of events, the driver will be fired.

  1. What could be more intimate than a kiss?

  2. It will be fascinating to see what the video shows. I wonder if they'll make the video public, or just announce their findings.

  3. Not sure how "fascinating" two guys kissing in taxi will be...

Sounds like a typical bigot over reacting to the simple presence of gay people being in love.

He should be fired, his job is to drive.

  5. I'll reserve judgment until the video. Sorry, but after the lesbian waitress, the guy who was drunk but claimed he was beat down, and ALL of the other stories Towleroad ran with recently with no proof, I dunno.

  6. This video should be made public now. A cab operates in the public under rules that they have agreed to as a public carrier. As such everything that happens in that cab IS public! That is the law.

Otherwise that video will never see the light of day. By just withholding that video the cab company is violating the law!

  7. (sarcasm font) more than likely seeing two men kissing in his cab would violate his religious beliefs and thus fall under the Hobby Lobby exception. (/sarcasm font)

  8. Straight people share kisses, even passionate ones, in the backs of cabs all the time, with little or no consequences. They definitely are never kicked out of the cab. Fire his homophobic ass.

  9. I know Eric to be an honest, good guy and very involved in LGBTQ issues in Washington state. I have no doubt that the video will show that he is telling the truth and am looking forward to it being made public.

  10. HRM - Nothing wrong with waiting for the video evidence, but I don't appreciate your selective memory. You are only recalling the few incidents in which a lie was told. Towleroad also covers many, many stories in which there is a real victim. In fact, there was a story very similar to this one just a few months ago. 2 women ejected from a cab onto a highway, with the driver justifying it by claiming that the women were overly sexual and drunk. The women were telling the truth and the driver was terminated. You should remember that too.

  11. Hey - it *does* happen, it happened to me in Chicago back in 2001, when i was on a date with my first boyfriend. We were both 19. We kissed, the driver flipped out and told us to leave.

  12. I hope they didn't have to pay for the partial ride.
    ---

Assuming the kiss was innocent and wasn't a make out session then I hope this will be a learning experience for the driver: either evolve with the times or go extinct like the dinosaurs.

  13. In Tacoma???? Thats rather shocking. I could see it in Spokane, but NOT Tacoma. Wow.

  14. I'll believe it when I see the video. Usually after all the facts of these stories come out, we find there was a handjob happening in the backseat or who knows what

  15. He should move to Seattle, where they kick you out of the cab for _not_ kissing your boyfriend.

  16. Hopefully in the not to distant future cab driving will be a thing of the past.

  17. It's not that surprising in Tacoma. They resisted anti-discrimination legislation for years. Pierce County was one of the few counties in the Puget Sound area to vote against same-sex marriage in 2012.

  18. To be more specific: There are eleven counties touching Puget Sound. Of those, only two voted against same-sex marriage in 2012. The other, besides Tacoma's Pierce County, was Mason County, which is much more rural.

  20. I've lived in Tacoma for 16 years and my husband for over 20. I really am shocked about this, we lived only a couple blocks from the Silverstone and the whole time even out late at night we have never felt unsafe.

  21. Little Kiwi,

Wow, your first bf. And here you are, 648 sexual partners later and you still have no one.

  22. When you've had cabbies pull guns on you to ensure you tip them "properly", this will seem minor, but perhaps something will come of it.

  23. He picked them up in front of a gay bar.....duh.
Keep your eyes on the road and not in the rearview mirror.

  24. "Straight people share kisses, even passionate ones, in the backs of cabs all the time, with little or no consequences. They definitely are never kicked out of the cab. Fire his homophobic ass."

In general, I would tend to agree, but this statement comes very close to painting with the proverbial broad brush. A+B does not always equal C. The only way to prove the cab drivers actions in this specific situation were inappropriate is first to see the video and second (and most importantly) to see this drivers actions and reactions with a straight couple behaving in the same manner. Without any proof yet that this was an "innocent kiss" and without mentioning that this driver may have done the exact same thing with straight passengers, the label of him being a "homophobic ass," while eventually may be proven true, is premature at this point.
