Nash Grier, Vine's Most-Followed User, Slammed for Homophobic Slur: VIDEO

Grier

Vlogger Tyler Oakley has joined the chorus of individuals outraged by a video posted by Vine's most followed user, Nash Grier. In a Vine that went out to the sixteen-year old's 8.7 million followers, Grier shows a clip of a commercial for OraQuick, an at home oral HIV test, in which two men say, "Testing for HIV, it's not a gay thing" to which Grier then responds, "Yes it is! FAG!" Oakley was quick to call Grier out on Twitter for his incendiary and defamatory remarks: "Call me and people like me, 'fag' all you want, but spreading false information about deadly diseases is next level."

Grier quickly deleted his video but it was captured by a Vine user and spread online thereafter. Grier has a history of making homophobic remarks on social media (and then deleting them), disparaging gay rights and gay marriage as Mashable points out

A petition was circulating on Change.org seeking an apology from Grier which Grier has since issued on Twitter, saying he was "young, ignorant, stupid and in a bad place" when he posted the video:

Apolo

Dr. Gary Blick, co-founder of HIV Equal said of Grier's remarks:

HIV is not just a gay thing. It’s a woman thing, it’s an African-American thing, it’s a Latino thing - it’s something that affects everyone in every community,” said Dr. Blick. “It’s time that our youth here in the U.S. wake up and realize that HIV doesn’t discriminate - and neither should they! Even though MSM (men who have sex with men) are the greatest at risk for contracting HIV, so are youth aged 13-23."

  1. Actually, I think it would be preferable if people like Nash Grier SHOULD think that HIV is something only gay people acquire. Therefore he'll be more likely to engage in risky behaviors that he thinks he himself is invulnerable to. Hopefully he'll acquire HIV; hard lesson to learn the hard way, TURD.

  5. Perhaps 16 year olds shouldn't have these kinds of platforms. In some ways, being "Vine" famous is even more dangerous to teens than being a famous teen singer or actor... even less protection, and an even easier platform to do the wrong thing.

  6. He was "young, ignorant and stupid" when he posted this. When was this posted on Vine, since Vine is only like a year old?

  7. That is one self-hating queer boy with way too much money and power that he did nothing to earn.

His parents should be terrified of what obviously lies ahead for him.

Taking away junior's computer privileges would be an excellent way to begin to stave off his inevitable suicide attempts.

  9. What we learn from this: 16yos have learned from the mistakes of others by posting better worded fake apology.

Yeah, we get it, you're another worthless breeder. Oops, did I call you that? I'm so sorry that I have offended you.

  10. This kid is 16. What of much value and wisdom does he have to say at 16? Let him live for at least 20 more years before he begins to spout off about life. And how in the world does he have millions of 'followers'? This is part of what's wrong with this nation.

  11. Are we really going to give this 16 year old kid another platform to speak from? When he gets 8.7 million followers and all kinds of attention like this, of course he is going to keep doing it. Just ignore him. Problem solved.

  12. Oh please! Leave him alone. He's right. We are f@gs. I am a f@g. The more we try to fool ourselves that we are equal to straights, the harder life will be. If you have spent even an hour with a straight guy, you will know who is superior and who is inferior. So let's just get over ourselves and embrace our queer/f@g identity.

  13. I'd read about this guy before in some article about the vine craze. IIRC, he's home schooled by religious fanatic parents in North Carolina. Not really surprising that he has major gay face but is homophobic. I think a suicide attempt is rather unlikely, and unfortunately we'd better get used to these ever more banal modes of celebrity. If you go to his youtube account (I wouldn't even know how to find him on "vine") you'll see thousands of supportive comments from his zombie-like teen girl followers. I suppose falling in puppy love with a guy on youtube or vine is somehow more intimate seeming than via MTV or however teenybopper idols were discovered as recently as 5 years ago.

  14. Littile Kiwi
I am totally fine with that's so gay or xxx is so gay, but Fag is really derogatory.

  15. He posted this two months ago and now he's claiming that he was "young" when he posted it. It's good to know that he's grown up so much in two months.

  16. "Closet case"..."queer boy"......"gay face"...

Stop accusing every person that offends the gay community as being a closet case. It's pathetic. Some people are just ignorant or hateful. It doesn't make them "secretly gay"

  17. I'm getting old because 1. I never heard of this guy until now and 2. when I looked at his videos, I found him to be EXTREMELY annoying.

I don't know of a 16 year old kid with such a following who doesn't quickly let such fame run to his head. He's a kid. Where are his parents?

  18. @ Little Kiwi's appropriator/impostor "JUL 8, 2014 8:32:50 PM"

There are a number of fetish blogs or tumblrs you belong on, but it isn't here. This is not the place to get your fetish on. I'm calling you out on this fetish tryory. I actually laughed out loud reading that little paragraph; you typed it with one hand I'm sure.

It's like the trolls aren't even trying to hide it anymore that they're getting off on their trolling.

  19. I had only vaguely hard of this guy and until I saw all of this, I assumed he was gay. The only boys I know who are such fame seekers on the internet all seem to be gay. Lohanthony? Tyler Oakley? Gay, gay, gay.

Either way, these kids should spend less time accumulating followers and more time reading Hemingway, learning calculus and mowing the lawn so one day when they are old and no one finds them interesting anymore, they can at least be productive members of society.

  20. Once again, since a reminder is in order:
    http://www.livescience.com/19563-homophobia-hidden-homosexuals.html

I think (hope?) some of your are just naive or have had sheltered lives in the northeast or west coast. Where I'm sure this sort of thing is less common. I grew up in the inner suburbs of DC but have extended family in the south. I know of families where, literally, both parents seem gay, most of the kids seem gay, but they all go the their local megachurch and are publically very anti-gay. Right now, 2014, I know of a Republican female politician from the south who many, many people know had several lesbian relationships in college. But because she's being a "good girl" and settled down, they keep quiet about it. Guess what? Her preteen son already looks unmistakably gay. A guy who hit on me in college and had his (secular) poetry published in the literary journal, whose dad worked for the Bush I administration, is now a fat, sad-sack looking assistant minister for a megachurch in the Atlanta area. I could go on. There are a LOT of closet cases in the south, end of discussion.

  22. Oh for example, this insanely stupid reality show: http://radaronline.com/exclusives/2014/03/chrisley-knows-best-bankruptcy-clothing/

The guy is gayer acting than most openly gay men I know.

  23. This kid is right about dangers of homosexuality in that it causes AIDS. Homosexual & lesbian behavior is useless, dangerous and does not result in reproduction. & transexuals are the mutilated homosexuals and lesbians-they must make it a crime to do sex changes. The rest of what I have to say here is copy/paste which I have said many times on other forums.

I also support abolishing vasectomies, tubal ligations and breast implants, I support birth control but am against sterilization surgeries. I oppose breast implants because they are fake (excludes reconstruct surgeries for women who have had breast disease). If a woman has naturally nice big boobs as singer Katy E. Perry has (she is listed as DD but there are women with bigger boobs than her), then that is good. There is nothing wrong with a woman having small boobs. Most men want a woman with natural boobs-small, medium or big vs. a woman with fake boobs.

I would limit Viagra in most cases because those are performance enhancers. If a man is let’s say 25 years old and in a wheelchair, then I support him using Viagra to have sex with his wife or girlfriend and have kids with her because there’s a use to it. But I am against Viagra or any other sexual enhancement drug for old men because that’s like giving steroids to nfl player after he has passed his prime. I would also be against giving Viagra and sexual enhancement drugs to homosexuals. So I would limit Viagra or other sexual enhancement drug to straight men who are under 40 years old with a handicap to that they can father children which below a certain age it’s medicine, but after a certain age it’s performance enhancers comparable to Steroids as Viagra, Zestra are. I support fertility treatments and I support In Vitro Fertilization.

While I’m neutral on abortion, I’m against sterlizations. There’s birth control such as the pill, condoms & old fahshioned Rhythm Method. Sterilization surgeries however are mutilations. Unless it’s a hysterectomy to save a life, they must make it a crime to do sterilizations. Sterilizations are spaying & neutering people. Also they make less attractive. All things=, if you have an intact woman vs. a woman who has been spayed, most men would take the intact woman. Same thing with a man who is intact vs. a man who has had a vasectomy, most women would choose the intact man.

  24. Gee, Nash... you're young and stupid. Yes. I hope you're not so stupid that you end up with HIV. That would be a shame. AIDS, it ain't just for fags anymore.
