Your Feature Presentations
For this weekend's moviegoing adventure, may I suggest a film about a whiny protagonist who dives too quick into romances, breaking innocent hearts? The movie is actually pretty good even though you'll want to slap some sense into the lead on occasion. If only our hero could find a little personal redemption and a way around the personal baggage that comes with multiple exes. What movie were we talking about again? Oh yes, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World ! Or was it Eat Pray Love?

Eat Pray Love is based on the best-selling memoir by Elizabeth Gilbert. "Liz" (Julia Roberts) is a beautiful writer in New York City. She's still hurting from a painful divorce from Stephen (Billy Crudup). She jumps into a new relationship with David (James Franco) who is too young for her. She's ambivalent and unhappy. She remembers an old prophecy from a healer in Bali and decides that returning there is the fresh start she needs. In order to find balance and inner peace, she'll have to forgive herself for that trail of exes and learn to trust in love again.

Scott Pilgrim vs. The World is based on a series of very funny comic books. "Scott Pilgrim" (Michael Cera) is a 22 year old bassist hipster in Toronto. He's still hurting from a painful breakup from Envy (Brie Larson). He jumps into a new relationship with Knives Chau (Ellen Wong) who is too young for him. He's ambivalent and unhappy. When he sees his dream girl (literally) Ramona Flowers (Mary Elizabeth Winstead), he wants to make a fresh start. In order to be with her, he'll have to forgive her that trail of seven evil exes and defeat them in battle

MORE after the jump.

How Brandon Routh Decided to Go Gay

Director Kevin Smith talks to the L.A. Times about how it came about that the actor who played Superman agreed to play the "hen-pecked" lover to Justin Long's flamboyant gay porn star in Smith's new film Zack and Miri Make a Porno.

Brandon_justinSays Smith: "On paper, it’s a thankless role. He’s the straight man, the set-up guy...He’s a straight man playing a gay guy who’s pretending to be a straight guy in that weird ‘Victor Victoria’ way. But Brandon found a way to play him like a hen-pecked husband in a gay marriage who’s still not quite living out loud. He’s so funny. He found a way to make it more comedic than it was on the page without changing a word.”

According to the L.A. Times, Smith surmised that Routh used the role to upend his public persona –- and also take a poke at all those rumors about his sexual orientation that apparently came from having worked with Singer, who is openly gay."

Adds Smith: "I think he saw this as the chance to make fun of the fact that people assume he must be gay because he worked with Bryan Singer or something like that. He embraced it. He ran with it."

Smith recently told Newsweek about Routh's reaction to the request: "I asked him, 'Do you have some sort of morals clause in your contract, being that you play Superman?' And he said, 'What is this, 1940?'"

Brandon Routh: Gay Relationships Just as Bitchy as Straight Ones

Superman and the Mac Guy get it on in Kevin Smith's new film.

Newsweek asked Zack and Miri Make a Porno director Smith how he got Brandon Routh to play a gay porn star in the film.

But Routh doesn't play one. He lays one. Replied Smith: "He's the boyfriend of a gay porn star. That's a key difference. I asked him, 'Do you have some sort of morals clause in your contract, being that you play Superman?' And he said, 'What is this, 1940?'"

Routh talked about playing Long's gay lover at the film's premiere: "All my scenes were very tame playing with Justin but you know relationships are relationships no matter who they're between. You fight, you bicker and it's all the same."

Justin looks a bit like Brandon's mini-me.
