Mississippi Says It Will Appeal Marriage Ruling As AFA Calls for Governor To Defy It

Fischer.Bryan

Not surprisingly, and having barely waited for the ink to dry, Mississippi officials announced Wednesday they'll appeal a federal judge's decision striking down the state's same-sex marriage bans to the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.

Jim-hoodMississippi Attorney General Jim Hood (right) also said he'll ask the appeals court for a permanent stay of Tuesday's decision from U.S. District Judge Carlton Reeves, which Reeves put on hold for 14 days.

From The Clarion Ledger

"The Office of Attorney General has a statutory duty to argue the constitutionality of our laws. We will appeal the decision to the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals and ask for a stay until that court decides the cases presently pending before it," Hood said.

The 5th Circuit is already scheduled to hear oral arguments in marriage cases from Texas and Louisiana on Jan. 9, but it's unclear whether the Mississippi case will be heard on the same day.

Reeves' 72-page decision has garnered praise from LGBT advocates, but isn't going over well with the state's Republican elected leaders:

"One federal judge appointed by President Obama should not be allowed to overrule the will of the people of Mississippi," Lt. Gov. Tate Reeves said. "I believe the Attorney General should appeal this decision to defend the 86 percent of Mississippians who voted for the Constitutional amendment in 2004."'

Speaker of the House Philip Gunn said today that he plans to work with Gov. Bryant and other state leaders to appeal Reeves' decision to set aside Mississippi's gay marriage ban.

"It is unfortunate that one judge has decided to ignore the will of the people of Mississippi," Gunn said. "On Nov. 2, 2004, 86 percent of the citizens of our state voted to support the legislative amendment on the ballot defining marriage as occurring between one man and one woman. Judge Reeves has willfully defied this law. I will fight to uphold the rights of Mississippians to determine this issue."

State Rep. Alyce Clarke, D-Jackson, who has a gay son, praised Reeves' decision. Another Democratic state legislator, Rep. Steve Holland of Plantersville, said simply, "You can't usurp a federal judge."

But Bryan Fischer (above), a spokesman for the Mississippi-based American Family Association, is calling for Gov. Phil Bryant to do just that:

HRC and Victory Fund Co-Founder Terry Bean Arrested, Charged With Sex Abuse of a Minor

Terry Bean, a prominent Democratic Party fundraiser and co-founder of the Human Rights Campaign and the Gay & Lesbian Victory Fund was arrested Wednesday on sex abuse charges involving a 15-year-old boy, The Oregonian reports:

BeanBean's lawyer, Kristen Winemiller, said in a statement that Bean has cooperated with the investigation, adding that it's her client who was the "victim of an extortion ring'' by several men.

Winemiller released this statement: "Terry Bean is a highly respected community leader who has devoted his life to bettering our community. Over the course of several months in 2013-2014 Terry was the victim of an extortion ring led by several men known to law enforcement. This current arrest is connected to the ongoing investigation of that case in which Mr. Bean has fully cooperated. No allegations against Terry Bean should be taken at face value. We look forward to the opportunity to clear his name.''

The indictment charges Bean with two counts of third-degree sodomy, a felony, and one count of third-degree sex abuse, a misdemeanor. Police have declined to release any information about the case or indictment at this time.

American Family Association spokeshater Bryan Fischer has already wasted no time jumping on the story:

Bryan Fischer: GOP Won the Midterms Because God Answered Anti-gay Prayers - VIDEO

Screen Shot 2014-11-08 at 9.31.18 AM

American Family Spokeshater (and "Hall of Shame" inductee) Bryan Fischer has a theory on why the GOP cruised to victory in Tuesday's midterm elections - God answered the anti-gay prayers at Houston's hate rally on Sunday

Said Fischer:

"It occurred to me last night, a good part of Sunday night was a lot of these pastors in Houston and a lot of people all around the country kneeling in prayer on the floor of that auditorium, repenting of sins, seeking God for forgiveness for ourselves and for this land. And then, on Tuesday, we have this dramatic victory. I've got to believe there's a connection there."

In a separate clip, Fischer attempts an etymological analysis of the word "sodomy," explaining that the word itself is "ugly" because God gave us "a natural revulsion to that kind of behavior."

Bryan Fischer: 'The Mark of The Beast Today Is The Rainbow Flag' - VIDEO

Fischer

Right-wing-nut and radio talk show host Bryan Fischer has a lot to say about a recent decision from the Kentucky Human Rights Commission which found that a Lexington-based printing company violated that city's fairness ordinance by refusing to print Pride t-shirts for a gay and lesbian group back in 2012. According to Fischer, this incident, along with others where Christians have been penalized or scrutinized for allowing their personally-held anti-gay views to spill over into their business practices, prove that "the Mark of the Beast today is the rainbow flag." From Right Wing Watch:

TshirtBusinesses like [the t-shirt printers in Lexington] are now "not allowed to engage in commerce because they would not take the Mark of the Beast on their hands or on their foreheads," Fischer said. "They would not allow the Beast to dictate to them what they did with regard to the homosexual agenda, what they did or what they thought."

Saying that the owners of this company are literally being turned into slaves by not being allowed to discriminate against gay customers, Fischer declared that they have now been forced to "take the Mark of the Beast on their hand, they've got to make the t-shirts that they gay lobby says you have got to make, and they have to take the Mark of the Beast on their foreheads, even the way they think has to be realigned with what is politically correct."

Bryan Fischer: SCOTUS Decision On Gay Marriage Cases 'Unconscionable, Unconstitutional, & Un-American' - VIDEO

Fischer

Anti-gay wingnut and bloviator Bryan Fischer of the equally anti-gay American Family Association bemoaned the Supreme Court's decision yesterday to let stand appellate court rulings that found bans on same-sex marriage in Utah, Oklahoma, Virginia, Indiana and Wisconsin to be unconstitutional. As Right Wing Watch points out, Fischer said the Court's decision is the "de facto Roe vs. Wade of sodomy-based marriage" that "[imposes] on every state in the union marriage that is based on the infamous crime against nature...It's unconscionable, unconstitutional, and un-American."

Disgusting Wingnut Bryan Fischer Links Bestiality Conviction With Homosexuality

6a00d8341c730253ef01b7c6dbd4c4970b-500wi

Vile wingnut rent-a-voice Bryan Fischer has taken to Twitter to link bestiality with homosexuality, according to Good As You.

Fischer is head of anti-gay listed hate group American Family Association, a pitiful organization which recently claimed the reason gay people are gay is because they suffered sexual abuse and are broken individuals

Responding to a story on USA Today about a Florida man who has been jailed for five years for raping his 8-month-old pitbull puppy, Fischer tweeted:

"How long before an attorney defends a guy like this on grounds it's his orientation, he was born this way?"

The response to Fischer’s disgusting tweet? Gratifyingly angry...
