John Edwards Won't Be Attending the Democratic Convention

The Washington Post's 'Sleuth' reports:

Edwards"Unequivocally, he is not going to Denver," says Jonathan Prince, who served as deputy chief of staff on the Edwards 2008 presidential campaign. Despite his humiliating confessional earlier this month, Edwards still hoped to appear behind the scenes at the convention to help Bono's poverty-fighting One Campaign, sources tell the Sleuth. Edwards, as recently as last week, according to knowledgeable sources, still expressed interest in participating in a One Campaign convention event on Tuesday of next week to assemble supply kits for AIDS caregivers around the world. Which, to put it mildly, would have been awkward...A source close to Edwards tells the Sleuth that rather than go to Denver to help Bono end poverty, 'what [Edwards] really wants to do right now is concentrate on his family.'"

Meanwhile, the National Enquirer, emboldened by its outing the story, continues the onslaught...

road.jpg Will John Edwards come around now on gay marriage? "Asked about his position on same-sex marriage a year ago, John Edwards said that he 'personally [does] not' support gay marriage, citing his religious beliefs as basis for his opposition. Even without the hindsight we have recently acquired about Edwards' own marriage, this was the response of a bigot. We now know that as with most bigots, Edwards is a hypocrite. As he was spewing inane statements about being "on a journey" on the issue of gay marriage, he surely had to remember the journey that lead him just months earlier to break his civil obligations and spiritual vows in his union with his wife Elizabeth."

Swaggerty_morganroad.jpg The Sioux City Journal profiles Chuck Swaggerty and Jason Morgan, a gay couple who are not only parents but plaintiffs in the same-sex marriage case making it through the state's court system: "Here we are, 10 years together, two kids together and yet somebody can be married for a month and they can have insurance at their jobs and we can't. But it's really more than that. ... Marriage, it is really more about love and family."

ABC: John Edwards Admits Affair, Says He Lied During Campaign

The affair that has been simmering at the National Enquirer has broke wide open.

EdwardsVia ABC News:

"John Edwards repeatedly lied during his Presidential campaign about an extramarital affair with a novice filmmaker, the former Senator admitted to ABC News today. In an interview for broadcast tonight on Nightline, Edwards told ABC News correspondent Bob Woodruff he did have an affair with 44-year old Rielle Hunter, but said that he did not love her. Edwards also denied he was the father of Hunter's baby girl, Frances Quinn, although the one-time Democratic Presidential candidate said he has not taken a paternity test. Edwards said he knew he was not the father based on timing of the baby's birth on February 27, 2008. He said his affair ended too soon for him to have been the father."
