Out Country Singer Chely Wright Scores Kickstarter Fundraiser Record for New Album- VIDEO

Chely WrightOut country singer-songwriter Chely Wright has broken Kickstarter records in funding her new album, reports Rolling Stone.

The 45-day campaign - the sixth most successful Kickstarter music campaign and the number one campaign in country music - raised $250,000, which will allow Wright to record and promote the album and to produce a music video.

Born in Missouri, Wright came out in 2010.  In the same year she published an autobiography and released a critically-acclaimed documentary about her coming-out process. She married Sony Music Entertainment's Director of Marketing, Lauren Blitzer the following year and gave birth to their twin sons in 2013.

Wright knew that after coming out she would lose old fans and gain news, but she says that she was "reduced to tears on a daily basis" by the number of private notes she received thanking her for the support her book and film had offered them in their own coming-out experiences.

With about half of the record already written, Wright looking at mid-2015 as a potential release date for the new project.

The Disgustings, Jordan Firstman's Comedic Short Film About 'Those' Gays - WATCH

Disgustings

Two years ago Jordan Firstman moved to Los Angeles and promptly discovered that in addition to being home to over 300 museums, the Walk of Fame, and some of the most gorgeous weather in the country--L.A. was flush with an “abundance of assholes.” Inspired, Firstman took to Kickstarter with the simple idea of bringing two of these people, played by himself and Chloe’s Drew Droege to the independent film circuit.

After successfully hitting the film’s modest crowdfunding goal and a year of production, The Disgustings dropped last week. Suffice it to say that the short is every bit a love/late letter to each and every single one of “those” gay guys we’ve all pretended to have never been before.

Transgender Model Andreja Pejić Launches Documentary Kickstarter Campaign - VIDEO

Andreja pejic

Supermodel Andreja Pejić, who recently came out as a transgender woman, has launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund a feature-length documentary on her life.

Pejić, an Australian national originally from Bosnia and Herzegovina, spent time in a refugee camp near Belgrade during the Bosnian War.

The documentary Andrej(a) “will explore gender politics in-depth around the globe, and the beauty industry and its attitude towards diversity, will be a focal point.”

Writing on Kickstarter, Pejić explains:

“I hope that by sharing my humanity, pain, tears, laughter, joy, and biggest struggles on film, it will shed light on what it means to live as a transgender individual. I have always believed that differences between people should not equal divisions and I simply want to create something that could help build a bridge between my community and the rest of the world.”

Gay Web Series 'Tough Love' Seeks Funding On Kickstarter: VIDEO

Tough

Earlier this year we told you about the queer web series Tough Love that mines the hazards of being broke, gay and living in New York City for comedy gold. The show centers on best friends and roommates Steven Bell, who is gay, and Blaire Wendel, who is a lesbian and enjoys looking at pictures of Kate Winslet in her spare time. With the first half of the second season in the can, the show's creators are now turning to Kickstarter to create the final 6 episodes of season 2. Named a staff pick by Kickstarter, the show hopes to continue telling non-traditional narratives that elsewhere might not find a home:

Gay characters in mainstream television are usually portrayed as one dimensional stereotypes, a half-assed attempt by networks to incorporate diversity into their programming. Gay people are as complex and varied as any other human beings, and we wanted to make a show to demonstrate that. [...]

We've been making Tough Love for over a year now, but we need your help to continue.Your financial contribution is not only supporting our show, it's also proving to mainstream television that non-traditional stories are in demand.

Watch as Steven and Blaire have a yard sale to help raise funds for season 2, AFTER THE JUMP...

Also, for those in the New York area, the creators are hosting a Kickstarter party on September 18. You can contribute to their Kickstarter campaign HERE. And in case you missed it, be sure to check out previous episodes of Tough Love HERE

GaymerX Is Back For A Third Round With a New Crowdfunding Campaign: VIDEO

Gaymerx2

The team behind GaymerX, an LGBTQ-focused gathering of gamers, is back with a new Kickstarter and a mission to resurrect the popular convention. Now entitled GX3: Everyone Games, the the con’s organizers have decided to emphasize the fact that gamers of all sexual orientations and gender identities are welcome within the queer gaming space.

Gx3“The point of this Kickstarter is to continue our work with creating a convention that is different and awesome--weird and safe, but diverse space in the gaming community.” GaymerX CEO Matt Conn explains in the group’s crowdfunding video. "We've decided that we want to keep doing what we're doing. We know that this work is important."

Despite successfully raising funds to finance previous GaymerX events, Conn and co. ran into substantial last-minute expenses that would eventually put the future of the GaymerX brand in jeopardy.

Our first year, we didn't really know what we were doing and had to try to figure it out on the fly. Because of this, we hit a lot of unexpected roadblocks, expenses, and last minutes issues. With GaymerX2, we had a plan and knew what we wanted to do, but went with a venue that was extremely costly and overestimated attendance.

Having learned from previous years’ woes, GaymerX is focusing on raising funds in advance of booking a space for the convention. The Kickstarter’s $80,000 goal will cover about half of G3’s total cost of $159,500, the remainder of which the team hopes to raise via corporate sponsorships. Blizzard Entertainment Inc., the studio behind the popular World of Warcraft and Diablo series, has contributed $10,000 to the organization along with similar sponsorship from a number of other organizations. With 17 days left to go, G3’s Kickstarter has already raised over $58,000 dollars in the days leading up to the campaign’s September 18th’s deadline.

'Gay Men Draw Vaginas' Could Make a Lovely Addition to Your Coffee Table Book Collection: VIDEO

Screen Shot 2014-08-10 at 8.47.38 AM

Oh Kickstarter, how you never cease to amuse us

A Kickstarter campaign is currently underway for 'Gay Men Draw Vaginas' - a proposed coffee table book chocked full of full-color drawings of vaginas as conceptualized by gay men.

For the past three years, Keith Wilson and Shannon O'Malley have been collecting vag drawings - scary ones, humorous ones, abstract ones. The drawings were then arranged into thematic chapters for the book, such as "Monsters," "80s Vag," and "Mysteries."

Check out the (NSFW-ish) video for the campaign, AFTER THE JUMP...

The duo recently spoke with The Huffington Post to share where the inspiration for the project came from:

Screen Shot 2014-08-10 at 9.00.53 AMKeith Wilson: Three years ago, we were at a restaurant with a bunch of other homos and the topic of vaginas came up. After a few unenlightened comments came out of the mouths of the gay men, Shannon asked me to draw a vagina on the table with a crayon. After I did, everyone at our table gawked at it, critiqued it. It started a totally vaginal conversation in a restaurant full of children and families -- fun stuff. Shannon asked my boyfriend, who was also at the table, to draw one. When he did, everyone wanted to scrutinize it and compare it to the other shitty vagina I'd made. The night was filled with vag chat.

The campaign has already raised over $43,000 of its initial goal of $37,000 and still has 18 days to go. Check it out HERE.

What's your concept of what a vagina looks like?
