Michele Bachmann Says She Doesn't Hold Herself Above Gay People: VIDEO

Bachmann_bornthisway

Michele and Marcus Bachmann talk to People magazine about their positions on gay people, the HuffPost reports:

In the Oct. 31 issue of People, the couple defended themselves against accusations of harboring an anti-gay bias. "There's never been a bias," Marcus Bachmann said. "I'm no better than anyone else," Michele added.

People also talked to Michele Bachmann's gay stepsister, Helen LaFave, who Bachmann said she loved. LaFave said, "Yes, we are family and love each other, but she seems to have a disconnect. Her statements and actions related to gay rights are very hurtful, whether she understands that or not." Their once-close relationship reportedly strained over Bachmann's anti-gay activism.

In related news, here's a new "Born This Way" parody (screencap), featuring a pair of Bachmann impersonators.

Cher Keeps Up Twitter War With Bachmanns

CherBach1
Singer Cher is still hitting hard at Michele and Marcus Bachmann.

Cher a few weeks back took aim at the fact that Mr. Bachmann runs a clinic that tries to "cure" gay people. Now she's getting more explicit, suggesting that Newsweek called the wrong Bachmann "queen" on their recent cover featuring Michele.

"On cover of Newsweek under M. Bachmann's picture it said 'Queen of Rage,' but there's only 'One Raging Queen' in her house! Not mine!" she wrote on Twitter yesterday.

Cher promptly followed that message with this remark: "Its not kind, &u know my feelings bout being Gay! No Excuse 4me, & feel bad 4 him but look at the suicide in her district & look at his job."

Marcus Bachmann Lies About Ex-Gay Clinics, 'Barbarian' Comment (Video)

BlumenfeldBachmann Openly gay presidential candidate Fred Karger wasn't part of the Ames Straw Poll yesterday, but he was in Iowa, where he and Iowa State University Professor Warren Blumenfeld ran into Marcus Bachmann.

Blumenfeld and Bachmann got into quite the heated debate about how Bachmann's wife, presidential candidate Michele Bachmann, twists religion to attack gay people and how Bachmann himself runs a clinic that tries to "cure" gay people.

Despite all evidence to the contrary, Mr. Bachmann insists, "I do not use reparative therapy, none of our clinic therapists do. What we do is we counsel; we talk to [patients] about whatever they want to talk about."

He goes on, "There is not anything that comes close to reparative therapy."

Bachmann also ignores audio evidence when he insists he has never called gay people "barbarians:" "I have never called the homopsexual community barbarians, that's a myth. And when it comes to who I am, I have a never rejected a person who is gay; they can decide for themselves what they want and who they are."

The discussion occasionally gets drowned out by an announcer in the background, but you can catch the meat of Blumenfeld and Bachmann's discussion, taped by Karger, AFTER THE JUMP...

Marcus Bachmann Shoves CNN Anchor Don Lemon

After giving a speech (and being heckled) at the Iowa State Fair, Michele and Marcus Bachmann and their security shoved the press, notably, CNN anchor Don Lemon as he was trying to interview the candidate, CNN reports:

Donlemon After talking for about three minutes, Bachmann waded into the crowd filled with adoring supporters. Moments later, as she tried to exit the area back to a waiting drive cart, Bachmann found herself in the middle of a mob of people: among them many supporters and members of the press including this reporter and CNN anchor Don Lemon.

Lemon says he was shoved by two Bachmann staffers, and by Marcus:

“She came out, after speaking for just a couple minutes,” Lemon said. “There were other reporters and cameras there. And I asked her very respectful questions: ‘How do you think you did in the debate last night?’ and ‘How do you think you’re going to end up in the Ames Straw Poll?’ And her two campaign aides started elbowing me.”

Lemon continued: “I told them, asked them not to elbow me. And then her husband Marcus started doing the same thing. And then he elbowed me into the cart.

And I said, ‘You just pushed me into the cart.’ And he goes, ‘No, you did it yourself.’
“It was just, I don’t know, why they would choose to do that. We weren’t asking any ‘gotcha’ questions,” Lemon added.
