Tim Pawlenty Flaunts Christian, Anti-Gay Marriage Views: VIDEO

Pawlenty

In a new video, presidential hopeful Tim Pawlenty pushes his Christian values and views on marriage:

"A traditional marriage between a man and woman is a moral building block of our society. It's in the Bible. God teaches us that. He values traditional marriage as between one man and one woman. That's something I personally believe strongly, and have always stood for that in my public life, and my personal life."

The WSJ notes, today:

Mr. Pawlenty is desperate to pull off a strong performance in Ames as he continues to lag in most public polls, both in Iowa and nationally. His campaign reserved nearly $200,000 in broadcast television time ahead of the Iowa straw poll as he continues to introduce himself to Republicans in the Hawkeye State, according to the same tally of media buying. That brought his total spending on radio and television advertising in the state to $436,991, or roughly a tenth of all the money he raised in his first three months as a candidate for the White House. This week, Mr. Pawlenty will tour Iowa in an R.V., with most of the stops less than an hour’s drive from Ames.

Watch: Tim Pawlenty Says Science 'In Dispute' About Homosexuality

TPaw Republican presidential candidate Tim Pawlenty last week said that he's a fan of Lady Gaga, including her pro-gay anthem, "Born This Way."

Perhaps he's not listening to that track closely enough, because the recently glitter-bombed candidate told Meet the Press host David Gregory today that "there’s no scientific conclusion that [homosexuality] is genetic."

Here's the transcript:

GREGORY: Is being gay a choice?

PAWLENTY: Well, the science in that regard is in dispute. I mean, scientists work on that and try to figure out if it’s behavioral or if it’s partly genetic –

GREGORY: What do you think?

PAWLENTY: Well, I defer to the scientists in that regard.

GREGORY: So you think it’s not a choice? That you are, as Lady Gaga says, you’re born that way.

PAWLENTY: There’s no scientific conclusion that it’s genetic. We don’t know that.

As Zack Ford at ThinkProgress points out, the country's leading medical groups agree that a variety of factors, including genetics, play a role in determining a person's sexuality.

The American Psychological Association, for example, describes sexuality as “a complex interaction of environmental, cognitive and biological factors.”

GOP Presidential Candidates React to Same-Sex Marriage and Gays in the Military: VIDEO

Debate_gingrich

As the topic turned to social issues during last night's GOP presidential debate in New Hampshire, the opportunity came up for the GOP contenders to flex their conservative values on marriage and gays in the military.

Bachmann is asked by CNN's John King about her views on same-sex marriage and replies that children need a mother and father. When asked if she would repeal state laws legalizing same-sex marriage she gets a round of applause by saying that "it's not the role of a President to go into states and interfere with their state laws."

King then moves on to ask the candidates if they would support a federal constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage, and if they would allow gays to serve openly in the military.
