It has been nine years since Heather Matarazzo starred in Welcome to the Dollhouse but who can forget her performance as Dawn Weiner, the ultra-geeky adolescent who channeled the angst of outcast misfits everywhere?
Matarazzo is now speaking out about being a lesbian and the years of drug and alcohol abuse that went along with the struggle accepting her sexuality. She spoke out at GLSEN's annual conference at Brookline High School outside of Boston.
“It was such a burden, because I had to pretend to be this person that I wasn't,” Matarazzo said. She reportedly urged the students and parents to “kill protesters with love.”
