In July I posted about a 21-year-old Tampa man who beat his toddler child to death because he thought the kid might be gay. The man, Ronnie Paris, has just been sentenced to 30 years in prison. “Several witnesses testified during Paris’ trial that he sometimes got rough with the toddler while play fighting and told friends his father had raised him to be tough and he planned to raise Ronnie the same way because he didn’t want a ‘sissy’ for a son.”
When you have thinly veiled hate groups releasing “warning lists” that promote intolerance, stereotypes, and ignorance, you’re eventually going to end up with an incident like the tragic death of this child. It’s just sick.
In other news, Brian Donahue and William Dodge who beat a gay waiter to death in 1998 for making a flirtatious comment, accepted plea bargains in their retrial and were sentenced to 23 and 16 years in prison, respectively. The victim, Steven Goedereis, weighed 118 pounds and died two days after the attack.
