The photography auction market continues to be ultra hot. This Edward Steichen photograph, taken in 1904 on Long Island, New York, is now the most expensive photograph ever sold at auction. It sold at Sotheby’s on Tuesday night for more than $2.9 million and broke the record set in November by Richard Prince’s “Cowboy” photograph which sold for close to $1.3 million.
Only three prints of Steichen’s photograph are known to exist.
