I’m loving the selection of tracks here. Only a couple are currently available on iTunes. The whole lot feels very summery to me. Most are European house tracks. I expect you’ll be hearing many of these in the months to come.
1. “World, Hold On” (Original Mix) — Bob Sinclair feat. Steve Edwards
Love the whistling in this soulful, classic house track with a melancholic, slightly apocalyptic flavor. This song is in the process of conquering the European continent.
2. “Sun Science” — Crazy P
A fusion of disco, house, and jazz, Crazy P (formerly Crazy Penis) brings in the spring with a spoonful of beautiful vocals by Danielle Moore that just say relax.
3. “Same Man” — Till Westwood
Addictive set of build-ups and breakdowns with an instantly recognizable vocal. Bits of electro and funk in here too. This should be huge.
4. “Horny as a Dandy” — Mousse T vs The Dandy Warhols
Fantastic mash-up from two unlikely artists that started out as an underground bootleg in France. Mixes Mousse T’s “Horny” with The Dandy Warhols “Bohemian Like You” Delivered with a couple of fantastic remixes from Tom Novy and So Phat!
5. “Erotic Discourse” — Paul Woolford
The spare, techno rhythms may not be for everyone, but I love this. There’s a three-dimensionality to the sound that instantly draws you in.
6. “Give Me Love” — Coburn
Wow. I can see this song being a huge hit over the summer. There’s a distinct Donna Summer “I Feel Love” vibe in it. An extremely upbeat disco journey into the sunshine.
7. “No More Conversations” (Mylo Remix) — Freeform Five
I can’t get enough of this song. Mylo does it up right — amazing bass groove and drop, lots of drama, a gorgeous hypnotic vocal. Five stars.
8. “Fade” (Grant Nelson Mix) — Solu
This song has become an instant classic, remixed by many. The Grant Nelson mix is the newest and best of the lot. Injects a fresh energy into this soulful track.
9. “Spiral” — William Orbit
I’ve begun to appreciate the aquatic complexities of William Orbit’s new album Hello Waveforms. Much of it is instrumental. This is one of the vocal tracks and it’s quite lovely. The whole album is a meditation on aquatic rhythms and forms. Great music for a massage.
10. “Be Without You” (Moto Blanco Vocal Mix) — Mary J. Blige
Hot, hot, hot dance tune from Mary J. Blige. She’ll have your hands in the air before you know it. Glad she’s back on the dancefloor.
NOSTALGIA PICK
11. “Get Down Tonight” (Tom Moulton Mix) — KC & the Sunshine Band
A groovy, extended journey back into the Sunshine Band classic.
