Last November I posted about the controversy over Dicks Street in West Hollywood. You might think a controversy over a street name like Dicks in the gayest neighborhood in L.A. might blow over, so to speak. But no, it’s 2006, and some residents of Dicks Street are tired of the unending humiliation they have to endure because they live on a street which shares its name with male genitalia.
So, the renaming of Dicks Street may just happen because historians have now said there’s no historical value in the name of the street — they can’t find anyone for whom the street may have been named.
However, an argument may be made that given its current whiny residents, the name of the street may be entirely appropriate.
