It's been a long time since I did anything constituting a restaurant review in these pages, but why not?
I'd been jonesing to visit S'MAC in New York's East Village since I heard about it last month, so, inspired by the body-conscious themes after viewing a recent screening of The Devil Wears Prada (which I highly recommend), my boyfriend Dave and I decided to increase our waistlines and make a visit to this little eatery which only serves Mac and Cheese.
S'MAC is short for Sarita's Mac and Cheese and was opened by husband and wife team Sarita and Caesar Ekya after they joked about such a place existing. Turns out their little yellow and orange eatery has turned out to be a gold mine. There is a sign on the window that due to overwhelming demand they've had to limit the hours they are open. It's currently open from 5:30-11pm, Tuesday thru Sunday.
As you can see from the small photocollage I put together above, it's fairly busy, but the line moves quickly.
Mac and Cheese lovers won't be disappointed. There are ten varieties to choose from and the portion sizes, Nosh, Major Munch, and Mongo, are gigantic. Pictured after the jump is the Major Munch size of the Cheeseburger variety, and they aren't kidding. I was able to finish less than half of it and took the rest home.
It was pretty damn delicious, but imho nothing beats a good box of Kraft.
When you're ready to take a break from the summer fasting and gym-going this is a great place to do so. Prepare to gorge.
S'Mac is located at 345 East 12th Street, between 1st and 2nd avenues.
