A fashion student claims he was attacked by a gang of Hasidic men on December 1 on the way home from a night out partying, the NY Daily News reports:
Taj Patterson, 22, was headed home to Fort Greene around 4:30 a.m. on Dec. 1 when he says more than a dozen ultra-Orthodox Jewish men began assaulting him on Flushing Ave. and yelling, âStay down, f—-t!â
âIâm walking down some block by myself and then the next thing I know, Iâm surrounded by a group of Hasidic Jewish men and theyâre attacking me,â Patterson said. âI was alone. I was an easy target. Iâm black. Iâm gay, a whole slew of reasons.â
Patterson was âhighly intoxicated, uncooperative and incoherent,â after the assault, according to a police complaint â but he remembers the ringleader.
A bus driver said she witnessed the attack. Patterson suffered a broken eye socket, a torn retina, and cuts and bruises.
An NBC News report says the hate crime unit of the NYPD is investigating the attack but makes no mention that Patterson is gay or the anti-gay slurs.
