Lee Ryan and Duncan James, bandmates in the British boy band Blue, separately took time this week to clarify labels on their sexuality.
Ryan, who told a housemate on Celebrity Big Brother earlier this year that he's "been with a man," took to Twitter to tell his followers:
I've been asked by a few people why I haven't reacted over recent claims & my answer is this.. "The claims that I am gay don't faze me. I don't care if people think I'm gay, why would I care? I would be proud. Sexuality doesn't need to be defended or justified.
In 2014 when individual sexuality is being celebrated, it's odd that Twitter trolls and bullies focus on sexuality in a derogatory way. We have created change as a society, a really brilliant change and to those people who have not yet caught up to 2014 (for whatever reason) please just open your minds and begin to think#equal.
Everyone is allowed to be individual.
And James, who has joked about having threesomes with Ryan and revealed his bisexuality in 2009, told Gay Star News that he calls himself gay but he could still "easily sleep with a woman."
Said James:
"I think to myself, I sleep with men, so that makes me gay. Regardless of whether I sleep with women or not, I'm still sleeping with men so I'm gay. So I'm still attracted to women, I could still easily sleep with a woman. I haven't in the last couple of years but I think if I meet a girl I could still have a relationship with her. I could still be romantically and sexually attracted involved with a girl.
"But I still call myself gay. I'm a gay guy. I like men, so that makes me gay. Don't get me wrong, I think people can be bisexual. When I came out as bisexual at the time, it was just easier to use the word. I do say I'm gay, but I don't really care about labels. I don't really care if people want to call me bisexual or gay."
Glad that's all cleared up.
