Democrat Sean Eldridge has conceded his New York House race to imcumbent Republican Rep. Chris Gibson, according to Politico.
With 50% reporting, Gibson led Eldridge 66% to 34%.
Capital New York reports:
Eldridge, the husband of Facebook co-founder Chris Hughes, faced an uphill battle for the seat.
He moved to the district shortly before declaring for Congress, and lacked the deep ties of Gibson, a lifelong resident of Kinderhook.
Eldridge's efforts to connect with the district's small businesses, by investing millions in local breweries, bakeries and distilleries through his Hudson River Ventures, were portrayed as an attempt to use his husband's fortune to buy votes in the district.
Eldridge tried to brand Gibson, an Iraq war veteran, as an out-of-touch conservative.
New York's 19th District leans Democrat.
