On her show last night Rachel Maddow dug into the marriage melee that ensued yesterday in Alabama following a decision from the U.S. Supreme Court not to extend the stay of a federal judge's ruling striking down Alabama's ban on same-sex marriage.
As Towleroad reported, while some same-sex couples in the Heart of Dixie were able to tie the knot, others were prevented from doing so because probate judges in some Alabama counties either refused to grant marriage licenses to same-sex couples, citing an order from state Supreme Court Chief Justice Roy Moore that declared same-sex marriage was incompatible with Alabaman's constitution, or refused granting marriage licenses to any couple, gay or straight. As one headline aptly put it, "chaos reigns."
