Gillian – “Colorize”
New York-based Gillian have announced the release of their new single “Colorize” from a forthcoming EP of the same name.
“Colorize” is more on the pop side of indie and all the better for that, a high octane, female-fronted summer pop song that tones the bouncy down at the three minute mark where you might expect it to end, segueing into a proper old indie rock out.
Over five minutes, it's really two songs on a theme. If that's an attempt to please pop kids and the hipster crowd at the same time that's all well and good but I suspect more likely Gillian are brave and talented enough to test the limits and try something new with a tried and tested format.

Listen to a selection of new modern classical/ambient/electronica releases and new songs by Hey Elbow and Skyline Advantage, AFTER THE JUMP…
Hey Elbow – Every Other
Hey Elbow is an indie / shoegaze / alternative trio from Stockholm, Sweden.
The band formed in 2013, and the debut single “Blanca” quickly made an impression and paved the way for gigs all over Scandinavia, the UK and Germany.
Their debut album Every Other is out now on Adrian Recordings.
Starting out with a spooky instrumental track, what follows is nine tracks that strive "to be free, and therefore Hey Elbow like to skip the usual genre descriptions and musical references when it comes to their creation,” which is admirable and the tracks don't all fit easily into a genre. Shoegaze is the most likely option if you want to pick one, but there are also elements of dream pop, goth rock, alt rock and indie pop.
Whatever the genre, there's something desperately fresh about Every Other that raises it above your average indie pop offering.

Skyline Advantage – The Songs About Stuff
Skyline Advantage is the solo project of Kieran Ball, the guitarist from Postcode.
The Songs About Stuff is a collection of songs written over the past two years which were either intended for other projects that never saw fruition or that were too personal for anyone else to sing.
The EP is available as a download on a pay-what-you-like basis from Bandcamp or as a limited edition CD-R or cassette, both of which feature exclusive extra tracks.
Recommended for anyone yearning for the glory days of Madchester 90s baggy indie pop. The missing follow-up to Laugh by Terry Hall.
