Since Caitlyn Jenner announced her transition and revealed ‘her' to the world on the cover of Vanity Fair, she has often been compared to another trailblazing transgender woman in the limelight, none other than Laverne Cox.
On The Late Late Show with James Corden last night, Cox talked to Corden about Jenner's transition:
“Well, first of all, I feel way too young to be a trailblazer…What I think is so beautiful about this, my visibility and Caitlyn's visibility, is diverse representations of trans people in the media is so important. When I think about being transitioning in my 20s, as a black transgender woman who was working class and struggling to make it in New York City it's completely different than Caitlyn's very public experience.”
And as for meeting Jenner for the first time only days ago, Cox says,
“[It was] pretty awesome. We'd spoken on the phone several times. She called me on the phone the day after her ESPYs speech actually. She's such a sweet woman, loves her family…I think she's doing it [i.e. transitioning] very eloquently and beautifully publicly.”
