Mac on FX’s show It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia has finally come out as gay, leading many fans (and other characters on the show) to say, “Duh.”
Mac’s closeted sexuality was a frequent punchline on the show. Take for example his desire to oil up body builders.
Or his trip to a gay bar called Rainbow, from whence he returned covered in glitter.
These moments, plus many others, suggested that it was really only a matter of time before Mac came out. The way that happened, curiously, was while Mac and the gang were on a Christian cruise. Playing shuffleboard, Mac encounters a gay couple (one half of which is played by out actor Tuc Watkins) and is shocked that God does not smite them for kissing (Mac is a little bit of a religious fanatic).
Mac then decides to try and convert the guys but, as Mic points out, they end up ‘converting’ him. Or, more accurately, they help him realize he’s gay. Which leads to this moment.
Fans took to Twitter to share their joy at the news.
