The CW has released the first trailer for Freedom Fighters: The Ray, which will mark the first time a DC/CW series will feature an openly LGBTQ lead character.
CW Seed released an extended clip from Freedom Fighters: The Ray, as well as a synopsis for the upcoming show:
Raymond “Ray” Terrill was a reporter who discovered a group of government scientists working on a secret project to turn light into a weapon of mass destruction. But before he could report on his findings, the project head exposed Ray to a “genetic light bomb.” The bomb failed to kill him and instead gifted Ray with light-based powers. With these abilities, Ray realized he could go beyond reporting on injustice — he could take action to help stop it. Calling himself The Ray, he was recruited by Uncle Sam and the Freedom Fighters to fight violence and oppression wherever it exists.

The Ray‘s setting: Earth X, an alternate universe where the Nazis won World War II and have occupied the United States. The Ray is a member of the resistance, a team which includes DC superheroes Red Tornado, Black Condor, and Phantom Lady. But the Nazis aren't the only enemy The Ray needs to worry about: The Germans have its own superhero fighters, and they're evil versions of Supergirl, the Flash, and Green Arrow, the core superhero trio of the Arrowverse.
The series will make its debut on CW Seed as a digital first series. No official word yet, but there might be potential for the Ray to cross over into Arrow (or one of the other DCTV series.)
