Paula Abdul brought a choreographed performance of her 1988 classic “Straight Up” to The Late Late Show with James Corden ahead of her first tour in more than 25 years.
The 56-year-old singer then sat down with Corden to talk about how her career began as an L.A. Laker Girl.
Said Abdul: “I didn't go the conventional way. I had four of my girlfriends who taught these dancing cheerleading camps with me – they came up to me and literally were like [looks down], ‘Hi Paula, do you want to try to be a Laker girl with us?' I was like, ‘Um, I don't look like you guys.'”
Abdul said she was cut in the first round before even getting a chance to dance, and then she changed and used a pseudonym and went to audition again, and was cut again. She went a third time, which turned out to be the charm.
