Donald Trump attacked Democrats on Friday morning, accusing them of wanting to “destroy and delay” his SCOTUS nominee Brett Kavanaugh. He also called on Kavanaugh accuser Christine Blasey Ford to produce police reports.
Tweeted Trump: “Judge Brett Kavanaugh is a fine man, with an impeccable reputation, who is under assault by radical left wing politicians who don’t want to know the answers, they just want to destroy and delay. Facts don’t matter. I go through this with them every single day in D.C.”
He added: “I have no doubt that, if the attack on Dr. Ford was as bad as she says, charges would have been immediately filed with local Law Enforcement Authorities by either her or her loving parents. I ask that she bring those filings forward so that we can learn date, time, and place!”
Kavanaugh was accused of sexually assaulting former high school classmate Christine Blasey Ford when she was 15-years-old. Republicans have resisted pursuing an FBI investigation of her claims even though Ford has begged for scrutiny from the nation’s premier law enforcement agency.
It’s unclear whether Ford will testify before the Senate next week.
CNN reports: “The chances of Ford deciding to go ahead appeared to rise Thursday after her attorneys opened negotiations with the Senate Judiciary Committee on a possible appearance next week. The requests being made by her team indicate that Ford is concerned for her safety if she agrees to an appearance that will be highly controversial and will be watched around the world. But it’s also clear that the California professor and her lawyers are concerned at the imbalance of power she would face as a single accuser taking on Kavanaugh and the committee’s Republican majority, as well as the structure and integrity of a hearing that in many ways appears stacked against her.”
