One thing you're sure not to miss if you walk down Commercial Street in Ptown is Ellie. She has become a fixture in front of the Town Hall, pumping Frank Sinatra tunes out of a rather ancient boom box. Ellie, however, comes off as anything but ancient, even though she's a septuagenarian (who has perhaps undergone some extreme transformations in her life) and stands on this main drag for hours, most likely raking in more cash in donations per day than some of the big performers in town. She goes after only the biggest old standards. She'll stand and sing Cole Porter's “I Get a Kick Out of You” to everyone strolling down the street, pointing at individuals and singing, “and you and you and you and you.” She is proud to say she did it “My Way” and brought the house down with that tune at Ryan Landry's Showgirls over the 4th. A Provincetown classic.
