National Gay & Lesbian Task Force returns $5,000 contribution from Democratic Party in light of Howard Dean's statements to the Christian Broadcasting Network regarding marriage. Dean: "The Democratic Party platform from 2004 says that marriage is between a man and a woman. That's what it says. I think where we may take exception with some religious leaders is that we believe in inclusion, that everybody deserves to live with dignity and respect, and that equal rights under the law are important."

Polargrizz: The first cross-bred polar and grizzly bear ever discovered in the wild is shot and photographed in Canada's great white north. "Grizzly bears normally live on the Arctic mainland and southern Victoria Island, but in the past decade they have been sighted on islands farther north in the Arctic archipelago. The hybrid bear could be a one-time anomaly, but it could also be a worrisome sign of things to come." (via treehugger)
Berkeley ice rink settles discrimination suit by two male skaters who were forbidden to hold hands while practicing at the rink. The rink "has agreed to hold diversity training for its employees, donate to the Gay Games and offer a gay skating night each month for the next year."

Presenting, the iPod for Special Republicans.
Los Altos, California gets final approval for a gay pride parade. The Los Altos High School Gay Straight Alliance ignited controversy in the town by requesting permission for the parade earlier this year: "'The town is not Bigotsville,' said resident Tom Freed. Nor is it 'Berkeley, San Francisco or San Jose. We're Los Altos.' And there were clearly fears about what the parade might mean to the town. Louis Windsor worried that the council was being controlled by a special-interest group and that the parade would alienate what he called the town's majority -- people who live there because they 'cherish traditional American family values.' Others, like Barrett McGrath, were concerned that the city's gay teens were being used to promote what he called a gay bully pulpit and that extremists from all corners of the Bay Area would make a point of being at the parade."

I REFUSE to watch idol for the rest of the season
There is no way elliot freaky teeth is better than Chris
But alas and oh well, the way their contracts are set up this might be better for chris. he could make mroe money off of another deal than ever would with idol's rape them contracts

I've been watching Idol for one thing and one thing only. He's gone now, so I'm not interested. Man, he was hot!

Because Jimmyboyo, Idol is a teeth competition, eh?
Posted by: midnight lounge | May 11, 2006 8:20:25 AM
Chris was the ONLY reason I watched the show.
I was wondering last night, before he was booted, if it might be better for his career if he didn't win idol.. Hopefully, that will be the case. I'd buy his cd in a minute.

You're probably right Greg. I certainly hope so.
I'll get that CD real fast.

but i do call him elliot freaky teeth because he is butt ugly and his teeth are messed up

NGLTF should keep the money and spend on electing pro gay people. But then I'm a whore like that.
Posted by: Donald | May 11, 2006 10:18:11 AM
Wrong. Elliot is the best singer. He can sing anything. Chris is good, but his vabrato limits him. Great rock singer, though, and he is hot. Better that he doesn't win. Ask Bo.
Elliot can always get caps.
But I think Katherine will win, if she manages to remember the words to the songs. She has the best voice overall.

I'll compare this season to the second 'Idol'. Clay Aiken was as popular that the American Idol winner -- Ruben Who? This will workout for Chris, or at least thats what I am hoping for.
In other news: I consider the Polar/Grizzly story significant because the interbreeding may hurt the Polar bear population... Another reason why global warming should be a warning sign for more Hybrid cars. Sorry if I am too much of a treehugger for you guys, but it concerns me.

That sound you hear is me cheering for NGLTF!!! While the resignations and call outs from various name Gay Dems were laudable, this is the first real shot across Howard Dean's bow as it has a price tag attached. I had cautiously been willing to give him the benefit of the doubt re some of his earlier actions but his throwing his legs in the air for Pat Robertson, and lying about the DNC platform while they were dry humping him was too much. I'm sending a contribution to the Task Force right now, and urge others to do the same. NOW if GLAAD would only rediscover their soul and tell Coors to take their blood money and fuck off. Yes, they were coerced years ago into affirmative gay employee policies. Yes, a gay family member is their marketing director and sits on HRC's board [gee, could that explain HRC's rim job of Coors in their corporations ratings?]. But, in 2004, the same year Coors Chairman, Pete Coors, ran for the US Senate and said he supported amending the US Constitution to ban gay marriage, he received $13 million in company stock options. Ya think, along with the usual 30 pieces of silver [to help underwrite their media awards and buy a place for Coors' logo on everything], he sent GLAAD a thank you note? BOYCOTT GLAAD!!!!

Hellooooo!
Democratic Party Chair Howard Dean has contradicted his party's platform and infuriated gay rights advocates by saying the party's platform states "marriage is between a man and a woman."
Democratic Party Chair Howard Dean, appearing on the Christian Broadcasting Network, erroneously stated that the party's 2004 platform says 'marriage is between a man and a woman.' Christian conservative Pat Robertson is host of the program.
"The Democratic Party platform from 2004 says marriage is between a man and a woman," Dean said May 10 during a "700 Club" program hosted by conservative Christian leader Pat Robertson on his Christian Broadcasting Network.
That statement contradicts the Democratic National Committee's official stance, which was adopted in 2004.

I repeat here what I tell all my true-blue Democrat friends: NEITHER of the two major political parties has interest in securing or preserving our civil liberties.
Whether a Democrat or a Republican, a politician is a politician, and he or she is interested first and foremost in feathering his or her own nest and secondly in getting reelected. Any gay person who feels he or she has a friend in Senators Clinton, Feinstein or Kerry or in Dean or any of the other Democratic partisans is deluded.
Listen to the candidates when they speak to organizations you DON'T support; examine their voting record; vote your conscience, not your party affiliation; and consider third party candidates.
PS: Fuck American Idol -- Bread and circus, people, bread and circus.

Second your flame of American Idol junk food(and its two homophobic "judges"), GM, but if you genuinely think the Dems are equally bad as the Repubs, you're the deluded one. And, third party candidates? A certain megamaniacal, lost-his-common-sense creepazoid named Ralph Nader is why we're in the shithole we are, and, for sake of argument, ALL other things assumed equal, no one will ever convince me that Al Gore would have squandered the lives of thousands and thousands, and trillions in debt, by invading Iraq.

Guess this makes Howard Dean a Christianist.
heh.
Posted by: Tom | May 11, 2006 12:56:48 PM
PS what about the asshole who paid $50,000 to be able to kill a bear - grizzly, polar, or hybrid? Sounds like something out of Eli Roth's "Hostel" to me. With all the crap going on in the world, someone needs to blow $50,000 on killing a magnificent animal?
