Mr. Gay International is Crowned in the Desert

Mrgayinternational2006_1

The second international Mr. Gay competition was held over the weekend in Palm Springs, California and Nathan Shaked of Israel was awarded the title, Mr. Gay 2007. Grant Ermis of the U.S. and Joep Mesman from the Netherlands were first and second runner up, respectively.

Said the pageant's producer Don Spradlin: "Competitions such as these have been popular in Europe for years and we're thrilled to now have a U.S. based component looking for the 'boy next door' to represent the broader gay community. The winner will serve as a spokesman to raise the visibility of gay men, confront homophobia, and create a positive role model in his travels around the world."

So there you have it. Full pageant equality.

  3. Although he doesn't look happy, he is the least pretty of three.

  4. Clone + Clone + Clone

Sorry, guys, but I don't buy it. Mix up the sashes and could anyone tell the difference between them?

I've seen much better looking guys out raking leaves.... Where are the real men? These guys represent the circuit party set, perhaps, but not the rest of us.

  5. Oh, come on! This is nothing more than the Miss America of the gay community. I can't imagine what the criteria must be to be a winner of something like this. Boyish good looks? That's it? You can look at any ad in any gay rag and find that. BTW, doesn't Don Spradlin oddly resemble George Bush? I, at first, thought what was Dubya doing posing with the winner of the beauty contest...

  6. What a total waste of time, money & energy by everyone involved. Do we really need a Mr. Gay International? And just what is his purpose.....to promote twinkism? The whole concept is laughable and don't even get me started on the three winners....

  7. Were they on acid when they chose the winner? He looks like a dog!

  9. Send in the clones...
Can the community be represted in a more shallow manner?

And who decided that this guy or group of guys is suitable to represent anyone?

    Role modael of what?
"hey boys...if you look like a clone of a twink, you too can be a spokesman for the gay community".

At least beefcake adds represent their company of origin and are direct in that their meant to drum up buisness.

Although I'm sure the promoters of this farce are makeing a nice little profit and will continue to do so...as these guys are booked for personal apperances at bars and circuit partys.
Representing the most shallow and insignificant aspects of the community.

Their no more a represantitive of our community than Pamela Anderson is of Nobel prize winners.

  12. Who judged this thing, Mark Foley?

Were any of the contestants over 16?

I hate to be negative, but none of those little boys do ANYTHING for me. If that were all I had to choose from I would have just become a monk.

I personally like men who actually look like MEN.

    Not my taste at all.

  13. Not intending to sound bitchy, but I have to say the winner doesn't look very much like a twink to me. He might have about ten years ago, but his twink days have twunk.

  14. Anyone wondering what the next Reichen headline to explose around the globe would be can stop: "REICHEN REVEALS HE IS REAL MR. GAY INTERNATIONAL. Reichen Lehmkuhl, superstar actor/model/author/activist/war hero confirms that his attorneys have filed suit against event organizers, and have petitioned for an immediate injunction from the US Supreme Court. FBI agents have allegedly seized the sash, while Lehmkuhl's legal beagles have delivered exhibits to Court clerks including two calendars, several magazines, one poster, and an unspecified number of Polaroids. One clerk was heard whispering to another, 'Oh, I have this!' An aide to Lehmkuhl said that an interview had just been taped with 'Access Hollywood' in which a very tearful Reichen told Billy Bush how much it hurt him to see someone else claim the title he has dreamed about winning since he was a little boy. A studio source denies reports that Lehmkuhl collapsed on the set. Check your local listings."

  15. I am sick of these twinky guys...Where are the hairy real men? I am gay b/c I love men, not completely shaved queens. I am so glad I have a real man! But, to each is own.

  17. I agree with JE. Netherlands looks good to me.

My problem is the title of the competition. Mr. Gay? Who was part of the brain trust that thought that up? I know it's a pageant so IQ isn't really an issue, but yeesh.

Mr. Gay??? How about Captain Queer or Lady MacFag?

  19. I wonder what Borat would say about the winner LOL ;-)

Seriously, though, I did read an earlier linked article about the guy from the USA and he seemed like a thoughtful, goal-oriented kid. Regardless of whether you like his twinky looks, he was impressive in that regard.

But man, he looked a lot better in jeans and a t-shirt versus that sash!

  20. How about some guys with a little milage on them? I can't think of three more uninteresting looking guys. I really like guys, and that picture did nothing for me.
