Pope Attacks Gay Marriage in Christmas Address

PopeclergyPope Benedict XVI, in a Christmas address to the Rome clergy, took the opportunity to slam both gay and unmarried couples. He warned that mankind would destroy its own identity should it follow theories which place same-sex couples at the same level as husband and wife, theories "according to which man should be able to decide autonomously what he is and what he isn't."

He added that supporting same-sex marriage "tacitly accredits those dismal theories that strip all relevance from the masculinity and femininity of the human being as though it were a purely biological issue."

The Pope defended his right to speak out about the relationships as tensions rise in the Italian parliament and between the Vatican and Italian Prime Minister Romano Prodi, who has pledged to fulfill a campaign promising civil partnership rights for both same-sex and unmarried couples. Said Benedict: "I cannot hide my concern about legislation on de facto couples...if they say the Church shouldn't interfere in these matters, then we can only reply: should mankind perhaps not interest us?"

  2. Overheard in Germany, 1936: "Why do you need to slam this Hitler fellow? Doesn't he have a right to speak? Why do people who disagree with him have to resort to name calling?"

  3. " Because you don't agree with him, do you have the right to slam him. Why do most of these comments have to resort to name calling...."

Of course we have the right to call people names, especially when they use their vast power and obscene influence to oppress us. Maledict is a bully and a creep. Also, he looks like Crabby Appleton and is equally rotten to the core.

Can't we all get along?? You're right Rob. Just because he thinks gays are evil, his words fed through the last Pope, he was his right hand man. If I was the type to resort to name calling I'd call him a closeted homophobe and you a misguided dickhead.

  5. All religion=mind control and manipulation. God help those who follow their own hearts, minds and souls. Fortunately, many GLBT folks figure out early on in life how hypocritcal and destructive organized religion really is to PERSONAL joy, happiness and peace in this lifetime. To think that this one fucked up mess of a human being (who sadly millions blindly follow) would choose to focus his words on divisiveness and hatred just indicates to me how pathetic, ugly and hateful the Catholic religion has become(or always was-as referenced by a previous poster).
Have a great holiday everyone and I appreciate the intelligent and very humorous postings on this and many other forums on this site. Thanks.

  6. What else did you expect the Pope to say, guys? Come on, according to Church doctrine he speaks infallibly - which means he's never wrong. Then again, papal infallibility is a man-given (as opposed to God-deigned) perk. Oops, I forgot - the infallibleness only applies to those instances when the Pope speaks "ex cathedra" such as in papal bulls, not during sermons. Part of me thinks it wasn't a mistake that papal bulls are for the most part papal bullshit. And I have a degree in theology - LOL!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all who read this.

  7. As a gay Christian man, the last thing I want to hear at Christmas is the Church condemning me. But then again, am I surprised? I wonder what God must think of His Church spreading such hate.

By the way, I've taken the liberty to link this story (and your blog) to my lastest post (and my blog).

  8. The Pope is so obvious a Nelly and his whole set up is so camp (seen the private secretary - sporty father Gayorg) - not to mention the expensibe label wardrobe. He is so trying to hide all this through his condemnation of gay culture in that slef hating way religious leaders get into. What a sad psychologically dysfunctional man. Still I guess being a young fag in Nazi Germany was a sure way of mucking up a lads psychosexual development. This guy doesn’t need God, he needs a shrink !

  9. Lordie, lordie!!! This from a guy who wears a dress???! (even if it isn't Versace).
Obviously his lessons in the Hitler Youth have taught him well. Such a tolerant speech at Christmas and so full of good cheer! Not.
I hope he chokes on reindeer shit.
