News: Gay Penguins, Matt Drudge, Owen Wilson, Lightsaber

road.jpg Gay penguin book And Tango Makes Three tops annual list of most "challenged" books: "The ALA defines a 'challenge' as a 'formal, written complaint filed with a library or school requesting that materials be removed because of content or appropriateness.' For every challenge listed, about four to five go unreported, according to the library association. Krug said 30 books were actually banned last year. 'Books aren't banned nearly as much now as they used to be, because communities are much more active in fighting that,' Krug said about the bans, which can lead to books being removed from both school and public libraries."

road.jpg New York magazine hunts for Matt Drudge: "Who is the man behind the Website? The more power Drudge has attained, the more reclusive he has become. Drudge seems to despise his own fame with a Kurt Cobain–like intensity. On radio he speaks of himself as a nobody and has referred to his fans as “psychic vampires.” He has utterly compartmentalized his life, separating the personal and the public. Acquaintances describe very brief, formal encounters, and even friends of Drudge’s, if there is such a category, generally communicate with him by IM. He’s said by some to be gay, but he has thrown water on these speculations."

road.jpg Injured Iraq War vet discharged under "Don't Ask, Don't Tell": Miller, an Iraq war vet, was injured during a parachute jump in Iraq when his chute got cut away and his reserve chute didn't fully open. He fell 900 feet - and walked away - but later learned torn the meniscus in his left knee and damaged his right ankle. The military, however, didn't dismiss Miller because of his injury. They dismissed him because he is gay. 'In Miller's case, he said he was in a known gay bar minding his own business when a male soldier made him a sexual proposition, which he rejected,' The Record reports. 'The rejected soldier reported Miller to a superior, and Miller was subsequently called in. He didn't lie. He admitted he was gay.' In short, Miller became the latest victim of a law that has become known within the armed forces as a most effective weapon of vengeance."

  1. re: Luke Wilson. That is Andrew Wilson,Luke and Owen's older brother.

  2. RE: Luke Bear: Is it Andrew? From his IMDB shots, the above looks more like Luke - who I would fuck yesterday, beard or no beard, in a men's restroom with black men lurking outside or not.

Sad about Owen. Good luck to him.

RE: Reichen: Fuck off already. Just do your porn now and get it over with. You're so on the trail to Titan Media, you could find their office in the dark.

RE: Drudge: Matt Drudge and Kurt Cobain should only appear in a sentence with the following words seperating.

    "is nothing at all like"

Kurt may have been a conflicted gay, but he was not a fucktard asswipe like Drudge.

  3. Every new generation of gay guys has to learn the lesson of guys with hot bodes rarely have great sex. In my 25 years as a MFCC with a mostly gay and bisexual clientele, the better the body the more hung up sexually. With the two guys in Red it obvious. Lots of these guys become “viagra tops” or versatile with a bottom’s agenda. There is no such thing as an “anal orgasm”.

  4. That is not Luke Wilson, it's his brother Andrew.

Reichen and his latest boyfriend make a cute couple. People really need to let go of the silly hate/jealousy of this guy.

  5. Regarding Matt Drudge, I'm curious to know what readers of towleroad think of his site. My best friend from college (a straight guy) maintains that towleroad is completely centrist. And a study of media bias by UCLA and the University of Missourri found that Drudge's site was actually left of center. But I have always heard from others, and it has always been my own feeling, that Drudge's site is completely right wing. Any thoughts on that matter from folks here at towleroad?

  6. Re: Lance vs New York magazine. Whoever writes for that magazine is stupid. They say "its pretty clear from the article, he's talking about the apartments and not New Yorkers."but the sub-heading of the article is "thinks we have no taste".

  9. I've always found Drudge to be pretty biased toward the right wing--or at least the Republicans. The trouble is, there is so little actually leftist content getting out into the mainstream press that the center (at least in the media) has moved to the right quite a bit.

  16. FYI: while you were all drooling over celebrities, it went unmentioned that while outright challenges against GLBT books in schools and libraries may be down, the creativity of antigay censors has grown exponentially. Books are checked out of libraries and never returned, defaced or vandalized beyond repair, and libraries (and megabookstore-chains) have been pressured not to purchase them.

I'm sorry for Wilson's current mental condition, but I'm quite certain that Thalians is well equipped to deal with his situation.

Ans as for Drudge, it wasn't all THAT long ago he was revealed to be a fifth columnist for the right, all the more sad in that he was outed as a gay man, and probably needs some counseling as well to come to terms with himself. Perhaps someday he will be able to make amends for some of the damage he has wrought on the gay community.

  19. Rechen, Ryan and Lance can go back to LA and stay there. Their user/poseur LA look is lame.

  21. Drudge has said on different occasions that he is a conservative, a libertarian, a populist, so who knows? He claims not to be a Repug, but voted for Bush.

I remember back when he had a show on Fox and wore a ridiculous fedora. He looked and acted like a complete ass. I've never liked him since then. I know that Keith Olbermann has called him a moron, so that's good enough for me.

As far as his being gay, several people have said he is, including David Brock, but he denies it. I'd rather not have him on our team, though.

  22. Could Miss Pink have her dizzy head any farther up Reichen's well-stretched asshole? While you're up there, could you look for Chip's wedding ring and assorted other personal possessions of Reichen's other true loves starting with Charlie, Louis, and Lance? Then if you pulled your head out long enough, you'd know that the Bottom's Bottom Reichen is at the bottom-feeder level of the river of gay celebrities who put themselves "out there for GLBT services and organizations that otherwise might not attract big names" because the meat puppet is NOT a big name. Really, Miss Thing, there are far prettier, younger, better hung bois for hire.

As for that other sleazy liar Drudge, David Brock told the story in his 2001 book of Drudge bringing him flowers after wrongly assuming Brock wanted to Drudge pack him.

"Drudge picked me up at a friend's house in the Hollywood Hills in his red Geo Metro, arriving with an impressive bouquet of yellow roses. Jesus, I thought, Drudge thinks we're going on a date. After dinner at the famed West Hollywood restaurant Dan Tana's, he suggested we go bar hopping along the gay strip on Santa Monica Boulevard, which Drudge navigated like a pro. ... (Six months hence, I received the following e-mail message from Drudge, under the subject heading "XXX." Drudge wrote: "Laura [Ingraham] spreading stuff about you and me being fuck buddies. I should only be so lucky."

When Drudge denied it was true to a "New York Daily News" reporter, Brock faxed him a copy of the e-mail from Drudge only to have the News never respond.

Actually, Brock was not the first to out him. Jeannette Walls had the year before in her book, "Dish." After which she says, "Drudge posted my personal e-mail address and my office and home phone numbers on his Web site."

  23. PeterParker,
The report I believe you are refering to is from 2 profs that use to work for the Heritage Foundation and they place the Heritage Foundation as the center so of course EVERYTHING else has a left leaning bias.

  24. I think Lance should know by now that he should choose his words more carefully when speaking to a reporter. I've read the article and he does come across a little bitchy about NYC and I don't think it's the mag or the reporter...I read on another blog he is now referred to as "Basshole". I love it...Welcome to New York Lance..you're not going to get every hot guy at splash and beige without paying for it...

  25. My favorite part of Lance's article is when he claims the Upper East Side is too far, that he's "not in college anymore."

Am I the only one who missed the part when Lance went to college in the first place? Where did he attend?
