Nobel Peace Prize Awarded to Al Gore and UN Climate Change Panel

As many had predicted, former Vice President Al Gore and the UN Climate Change Panel have been awarded this year's Nobel Prize for Peace. Gore and the IPCC were chosen from a field of 181 candidates, the Guardian reports.
Said the committee: "He is probably the single individual who has done most to create greater worldwide understanding of the measures that need to be adopted...Thousands of scientists and officials from over 100 countries have collaborated to achieve greater certainty as to the scale of the warming. Whereas in the 1980s global warming seemed to be merely an interesting hypothesis, the 1990s produced firmer evidence in its support. Action is necessary now, before climate change moves beyond man's control."
According to the BBC, "[the committee] wanted to bring the 'increased danger of violent conflicts and wars, within and between states' posed by climate change into sharper focus. [It] highlighted the series of scientific reports issued over the last two decades by the IPCC, which comprises more than 2,000 leading climate change scientists. The reports had "created an ever-broader informed consensus about the connection between human activities and global warming."
Said Gore: "I am deeply honoured to receive the Nobel peace prize. This award is even more meaningful because I have the honour of sharing it with the IPCC - the world's pre-eminent scientific body devoted to improving our understanding of the climate crisis - a group whose members have worked tirelessly and selflessly for many years."
The White House response to the announcement? "Of course we're happy for Vice President Gore and the IPCC for receiving this recognition."
It must make them pleased that something good came out of their stealing the election from him.
Now, of course, the big question that remains is will this significant honor push Gore to make a second run for the nation's top job?

PAULA,
Al Gore has stated that he buys green electricity from renewable sources. Given that fact I think he should be able to use pretty much all the electricity he desires.
Now, if only we could bottle your hot air we'd surely be able to power a couple of cities for at least a week or two.
xo,

Excuse me.....but what is *green* electicity? Please show me where traveling over 150,000 air miles a year and burning 25,000 Kwh of power a month can be *carbon offset*.....did Mr. Gore clean up his toxic waste dump at his Tennessee home yet? These aren't just talking points from right wingnuts folks, they are actual, proven facts. Gore and DiCaprio and most of the other high profile so-called enviromental *leaders* want you and I to cut back on power usage, and waste, but not themselves. They want third world countries where food is a luxury to increase the cost of production, but do nothing to stop the companies they own huge blocks of stock in from shipping tomato's 6000 miles when local tomato's are available. To walk lock step with a left wing loser is no better than ealking lock step with a right wing loser folks. Wake up and think for yourselves for once.
Like someone above me said...Gore would have been President if he had won his home state......funny that, the people who knew him best said .....*no thanks**....what did they know that apparently we didn't?

While I firmly believe that Global Warming is happening......no one has proven(because the science just isn't there folks) that it's man made. While man may have contributed to it somewhat, it's nothing like Gore and that bought and paid for group, the IPCC claim. The British science board just 2 days ago released their report on Gore's claims and found that he exaggerated profusely on his claims.
We all need to clean up our act's and do more to keep the enviroment healthy, and pollute less and use less fossil fuels, but more and more real scientists are moving to the conclusion that we are in a cyclic period of warming and NOTHING we do will reverse it.....it has to run it's course....telling people they can reverse it is just lying to them....in the meantime people like Gore are selling *carbon offset's*(yes, he happens to own a carbon offset company)....but almost all reliable enviromental scientists say there is no such thing as sellable *carbon offsets*.
I have to agree with Mark above me.....the Noble Peace Prize hasn't been worth the paper it's printed on except for 1 or 2 recipients for 20 years.

Oh MARK, I don't know how any of us will be able to sleep tonight fretting over the fact that you laughed at us.
Of course it's people like you who laugh at people for believing that the universe is more than 6,000 years old, that the world wasn't created in six days and that the story of Noah's arc is a myth.
Maybe I won't lose any sleep over it after all.
Good night.

Things must be really dead over at GayPatriot for Paula, Mark and Joshua to be slumming and trolling at Towleroad.
I know it's a tragically bad time to be a Republican but really, this is just sad...and kinda funny!
