road.jpg Anti-gay marriage speakers meet with resistance from Vermont audience after proclaiming "Marriage can be the union between man and woman or it can be the union of any two people. Vermont cannot have both." Audience member: "It's nonsensical that marriage can't have multiple meanings. That's simply scare tactics." Outright Vermont launches statewide outreach effort: "A rainbow-colored bumper sticker, a "queer-mobile" that travels to remote and rural areas, paid spots on the radio, an online resource and a monthly newsletter are all strategies for a queer youth visibility campaign launched Thursday in Burlington. Outright Vermont, the state's largest 'queer' organization in its 20th year that works specifically with youths, wants to make Vermont the most "queer-friendly" state in the country – one person at a time."

road.jpg Tom Cruise producing partner Paula Wagner speaks out about Scientology video leaks: "I am not a Scientologist, nor are most of the people Tom and I work with, but that doesn't mean I can sit by silently while he is attacked for his religious beliefs. As a film-maker and an American, I feel strongly that an individual's religion should have no bearing on their professional life."

This has upset us dearly so please clean up all the weiner poopie, if you want to see Jesus unharmed."

road.jpg NYT on how the MRSA staph 'superbug' story went viral: "On Monday, a team of researchers led by doctors from the University of California at San Francisco announced that gay men were “many times more likely than others” to acquire a new strain of drug-resistant staphylococcus, a nasty, fast-spreading and potential lethal bacteria known as MRSA USA300. And sure enough, the study, published online in the Annals of Internal Medicine, was quickly picked up by reporters round the world and across the Internet, including a London tabloid which dubbed the disease 'the new H.I.V.' But for gay men in the Castro neighborhood here, which was an early epicenter for the AIDS epidemic and a current hot spot for MRSA, the report also seemed to cast an unfair, and all too familiar, stigma on their sexuality."

Glaciersroad.jpg Could volcanoes be facilitating the melt of the Antarctic glaciers? "In an article published Sunday on the Web site of the journal Nature Geoscience, Hugh Corr and David Vaughan of the British Antarctic Survey report the identification of a layer of volcanic ash and glass shards frozen within an ice sheet in western Antarctica. 'This is the first time we have seen a volcano beneath the ice sheet punch a hole through the ice sheet' in Antarctica, Vaughan said."

road.jpg Indiana wingnuts irate at lawmaker's refusal to hear proposed constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage: "Rep. Scott Pelath, D-Michigan City, who is chairman of the House Rules and Legislative Procedure Committee, said today that the most urgent issue facing the state is property taxes, not same-sex marriage, which already is banned by Indiana law. 'I’m not planning on having a hearing,' Pelath said. 'The short session (of the legislature) was designed to deal with emergencies. We have a very serious problem with the property tax system, and we don’t have any gay marriages in Indiana.' The Senate committee plans to debate the amendment Thursday, but Eric Miller, who has pushed for passage of the amendment as founder of the conservative group Advance America, called that 'disingenuous.' The legislature, he said, is dealing with plenty of issues besides property tax reform and has the time to debate and vote on this amendment before its March 14 deadline."

  1. I also believe in the right of anyone to have whatever religious beliefs they choose to have. And I also believe the rest of us who disagree should be free to criticize those beliefs.

  2. I also believe that the more "airtime" we give wingnuts like Matt San___z the longer they stick around. Ignore them and they WILL go away.

  3. Boy the media sure knows how to play dead when it wants to. No where in Suzanne Pleshette’s obits or write-ups have I seen it published that she was a lifelong heavy smoker. RIP Suzanne.

  4. I really dislike the queer-mobile, queer-friendly, queer-etc. labeling used by this group Outright Vermont or any other group supposedly helping gay people. What gives with the BS? Queer means unusual and same sex love is not unusual. Why is this a good thing? I'm not queer. Im fairly normal like most of the guys I know. Stop calling us queers you dopes. Jesus, we are our own worst enemies.

  7. So glad LOGO is screening Brother Outsider all week. It's a teriffic documentary and an important reminder of the fact that the March on Washington was the work of a gay black man.

  8. I was bothered by how virulently the GAY MEDIA spread the MRSA story replete with misinformation, unsubstantiated innuendo and shameful word play. I spent days on comment boards on GAY sites, including this one, trying to point out the obvious problems with the original article.

Second, the high school principle most certainly DID NOT apologize for inviting Ken Hutcherson to speak at his school. In fact he was quite defiant and even more offensive by apologizing for the trouble that resulted from his outrageous choice of speakers. He defended his choice while making it sound like those who protested were the antagonizes and trouble makers.

And lastly, the legislator from Indiana is no friend of the gay community. His refusing to take up the marriage amendment is purely political and not based on a moral or ethical conviction. He, like the governor of Iowa, say that they don’t need an amendment AT THIS TIME because it’s not needed because the PROBLEM of gay marriage isn’t a reality at this time. BOTH make it very clear that once the “problem” raises its head (through a pro marriage equality supreme court ruling or a challenge to the law) then they will quickly and wholeheartedly move to enact an amendment to usurp the judicial branch. I don’t find that particularly comforting.

  10. "I feel strongly that an individual's religion should have no bearing on their professional life." Paula Wagner

So do I Ms. Wagner, but it is not a religon, it is a cult made up from a third rate science fiction writer. Space aliens? Please Mary.

Suzanne Pleshette RIP. Loved her in Birds, Bob Newhart and one of the many funny guests on Will & Grace, Karen's con artist mother, the guests were much funnier than W&G.

And the funniest:"please clean up all the weiner poopie, if you want to see Jesus unharmed."

Too bad there was not clip. You go with your bad ass girl.

  12. Religion is a belief in the supernatural. Frankly, I think (not "feel", not "believe") that ESP is more likely than god(s).

  13. I think Zac Efron is utterly cute as hell. The only problem is that I realized as I flipped through the pics that were linked to, that someone is actually following this poor boy around, and we all know about his follow-up to surgery appointment, where he gets coffee, where he gets smoothies...ugh, and that means the heinous paparazzi is following him 24/7, and that sucks. Sorry Zac!

  14. RE: Paula Wagner and Scientology: She's absolutely right. Scientology is no more a cult than Christianity is Science Fiction; meaning that both are just that. I can't readily condemn (no one has any reason to condemn anyone, really) Cruise and his ilk without doing the same for the idiots who think there's a big bearded man in the sky who had a son die on earth for our sins. Please! It's 2008 people, put down the martinis and get sober. If you want to believe in your religion – great. But don’t insult his or anyone else’s.

  15. Sadly, it's NOT unfair to say gay men in large cities are many times more likely to get staph infections...we are. Just like we were (and are becoming again) much more likely to get HIV. We still have bathhouses and sex clubs (WHY???), and now everyone's hooking up online. Staph is spreading exponentially, just like HIV once did...and is again. This (we) will hurt us far more than the Mike Huckabees of the world will. In fact, they live for this kind of stuff...and we're handing it right to them.

  16. Re Paula Wagner,
I most certainly WILL speak out against theisms. As long as these people condemn me as immoral and pass laws that make me a second class citizen because I’m Gay I WILL speak out against their religion. As long as the theists believe in high jacking airplanes and flying them into buildings to glorify their scriptures I WILL speak out against their religion. And as long as the theists use their gods of scriptures to justify ignorance, hate, war, and murder, I WILL speak out against them.

  17. Let's see... my property taxes in Indy have gone up 200% in four years. And it is now that wingnut Eric Miller wants to press for a state consitutional ban on gay marriage? Where are peoples' priorities? Gawd, I hate Indiana. Ugh.
