  1. I love that the URL for this page is "full-length-sex" ;-)

  2. I never became a huge fan of the show, primarily because I never had cable or HBO, but this movie might be really fun! Looks like I'm going to have to check it out!

  3. Please, to the gay men everywhere reading this. Do not go see this movie. Our community's unfortunate attraction to this show and others make us look like brainless ninnies.

It's bad enough this site was promoting Mariah earlier.

Please, for the good of us all, read, take a walk, anything but promote this movie.

    Thank you.

  4. Oh boo hoo Protogenes, lighten up. Gay men can be serious/intellectual and silly/fun all in the same body. Sex and the City is a national institution. My 24 year-old niece and I already have a date for the premiere near where we live.

    Posted by: I'm a Carrie | Feb 22, 2008 9:34:49 AM

  5. Sorry there Protogenes but I love SITC and cannot wait to see the movie. Over the years I have grown to love these characters and doubt very much that that makes me brianless ninny. It is a funny show that I enjoy watching - period.

Maybe you should follow your own advice and take a walk, read, or write a letter instead of preaching what we should be interested in or what Andy should be posting about.

Good grief man - and here I thought the wackos only came out during the full moon.

  6. And btw Andy it is Sex In The City not Sex And The city.

Jeez and you call yourself a gay man ;)

    Posted by: Derek | Feb 22, 2008 9:40:21 AM

  7. Well, I just saved $10 because I just saw the movie. There is not much that they can do in a movie unless: they start having sex with animals while Mr. Big video tapes and jerks off into the gay men mouths. It was a lame material driven series laced with a transparent veneer of friendship.

  8. Ah good, the legends of the drones have defended their territory.

"Sex and the City is a national institution"

    I'm not American ;)

I wasn't preaching to Andy, but to my lemming like brethren as they march off the cliff of culture into the Sea of Pop.

    Come back, come back!

  9. Hey Charles opinions are like assholes, everyone's got one.

And your opinion is like your asshole, it just plain stinks.

  10. I think we can enjoy this film AND read books. Life is all about balance, and this is the cupcake after my nocarb/all protein dinner.
Also Derek, I'm sorry but it IS called Sex AND The City. You can keep your gay membership card though.:)

  11. (hiding my face in total shame)

and I even own the DVDs....

    Posted by: Derek | Feb 22, 2008 10:05:20 AM

  12. The shame isnt that you got the name of the show wrong, but that you didnt get the whole point of it. It's a show where New York City is one of the central characters.

    Posted by: aboutanyboy | Feb 22, 2008 10:17:34 AM

  13. My getting the name wrong does not mean I don't understand NYC is the 5th character in the stories but thanks...

  14. Derek

The full moon was last night.

    :-)

  15. I thought it was the night before last ;)

  16. Derek, You can keep your family card, darlin'. I just assumed you had confused the upcoming Sex And The City movie with the previously released pornflick Sex In The City. It is an understandable and forgivable faux pas. One needs a cinematic culture of both depth and breadth.

  17. definitely not a big screen ticket item, but a damn worth-it rental !

    Posted by: A.J. | Feb 22, 2008 10:46:53 AM

  18. Saw Chris Noth in the gym the other day. He was looking like Mr. Big in more ways than one. And no, I'm not talking cock size...I'm talking waist size.

As for the criticism of "Sex And The City" by PROTOGENES, the show isn't exactly the pinnacle of intellectualism, but I will say this: those girls got me through a *really* lousy breakup a few years ago. Every dateless Saturday night I would settle down in front of the television with my 'Sex And The City' DVDs while Miranda, Samantha, Charlotte and Carrie reminded me that love ain't easy to find and when you do find it, it rarely goes as planned...even when you are intelligent, funny, talented, hot and living in the most populous city in the U.S. where getting a man should be as easy as shooting fish in a barrel. What's the harm in that?

  19. "Please, to the gay men everywhere reading this. Do not go see this movie. Our community's unfortunate attraction to this show and others make us look like brainless ninnies."

Oh, spare me, S&TC is Shakespeare compared to what most of America watches. Unless I'm such a brainless ninny I don't recognize the deeper meaning in Pirates of the Caribbean 16 and Rambo 185.

  20. Enough with the bickering. SJP and Sex and the City are fabulous. Welcome back, ladies. I can't wait!

Posted by: Peter Rivendell | Feb 22, 2008 11:48:59 AM

  21. Amen, Peter! Protogenes, what gets you excited, culture-wise? What makes you tingle with anticipation, in terms of music or movies or books? What makes you giddy that gives you the right to be so self-righteous?

    Posted by: brad | Feb 22, 2008 12:05:29 PM

  22. Trying to put us into little boxes and trying to make one definition fit us all is the same thing republicans and christian zealots are doing. We should NOT be proud of being gay, we should "do it in the privacy of our own homes" and we should never, ever do anything "stereotypical". GMAFB!

Know what I say? FUCK YOU! If you want to be a blind ass zombie who follows the crowd and has no individualism, no self worth, do it.

I as a gay man can read Voltaire, I can experience higher levels of my humaness and still enjoy a good laugh, good sex and mindless entertainment. I follow my own rules, not some set up by self loathing gays who are afraid to be too "feminine",too "OUT", too "flamboyant", or are too scared to be who they are for fear of not being accepted.

If you describe yourself as "straight acting", I think you're missing the most important word in that phrase, "acting" and if you have to "act" like something to be accepted, guess what babies, you AIN'T really accepted and never will be by some people, because as long as you are "homosexual", some people will hate you.

Be yourself. Go see Sex And The City, watch porn, wear a dress, wear cowboy boots, just be yourself instead of letting someone else tell you what to be or how to be. Most importantly get rid of this bullshit homophobia within our gay community. We get enough of that from the straight world.

  23. BOO Sex and the City...The scenes of Carrie strutting down the street in crazy clothes are irresistable, but the rest of the show is so bad. It's on every night after Seinfeld, and every time I watch it I feel like shit.

Around the fourth season the women start talking to each other like their babies.

Also for a show that is produced and directed by gay people couldn't they have found some more appealing gays than Stanford and Mario Cantone?

    Posted by: paul | Feb 22, 2008 12:27:47 PM

  24. Poor Protogenes's opinion is apparently not welcome here! Geez! Such passion for such fluff. You're entitled to like Sex and the City, but to defend it as a Sacred Cow??? I certainly do not understand why this series, though rather good, should be identified in any way with the gays. I certainly do not subscribe that going and watching it is suddenly equated to fighting homophobia!

All this is Hollywood entertainment. That is, a commercial product made to please the widest audience. Probably without interest. If you like it, go. If not, don't.

However, I agree with Protogenes that we are in a society where mindless entertainment is the be-all of many people. Clarion calls are thus welcome.

Now, let me get off my soap-box without tripping :-)

  25. If watching a TV show makes you feel like shit, you've got way bigger problems to address than the show's dialogue or lack of appealing gays...

And also the edited TBS version of Sex AND The City is not even close to the original -so much has been removed and entire story lines cut out to save time. It really should be called SATC light.

    Posted by: Derek | Feb 22, 2008 12:41:18 PM

  26. SATC is not so mindless. The story lines and character development are very skillful, not to mention all of the art direction, production, and (most of) the acting. And it succeeds in making a serious subject (conflicting ideas of feminism) into entertainment. You can dismiss the series if you want, but that is more an indication of cultural illiteracy and disinterest than anything else. I'm looking forward to the movie.
