  2. I don't get it! What is this video trying to say? Is he slamming the USA? Pro gay? Anti Gay? Seems to me he is making fun of gays.... What do you think? I an not sure at all...

  3. This kind of humor is so played out, and at this point it comes across as "homophobia lite" for liberals. Oh, yes, ultranationalists are all so "gay," and that makes them...a big joke.

  4. Leaving aside the muddled political message, my ears were offended by that awful attempt at singing.

I've heard better from drunk Japanese businessmen at the Karaoke Bar. And that ain't a good sign.

  5. Oh, lighten up guys. I thought it was a pretty hilarious spoof of all of those hyper-patriotic country songs set against the normal homophobia of red-state-land.

  7. This actually put a smile on my face. I thought it was funny, and good for a laugh. Maybe my sense of humor differs from everyone else's?

  9. I thought it was hilarious. Subversively taking the adolescent "that's so gay" and making it ironically literal in terms of patriotism.

I'm totally gay for the US of A as well.

  11. the first thing the "whitest kids..." should have done was a song about straight men being gay for jesus. now that would have been even more ironic. this vid was a hoot anyway.

  12. "take the Washington Monument to its base"

These guys are great. I am so glad that they switched over to IFC where they are appreciated.

  13. Brilliant satire and frickin hillarious.

I can't believe that so many people from so many angles could miss the point of the spoof so completely.

Try watching it again without so many preconceived notions.

It's certainly not anti-gay. Pay close attention to the marriage part and to the part where he says (with a video of the military in the background), "and I'd be faithful and loyal 'til he threw me away".

He even gets in a jab that he would be against getting married but he would be OK with "keeping it a secret" (with a bathroom stall in the background).

Does no one understand political satire and its power anymore?

I suggest that some of you go back to high school English literature and study the Canterbury Tales for a lesson in satire 101.
