Brothers & Sisters Actor Luke MacFarlane: I'm Gay

Though his rumored relationship with T.R. Knight was well documented and other relationships speculated about, Luke MacFarlane was never out publicly until today, in an interview with Canada's Globe & Mail:
"Though no secret to his family and close friends, Macfarlane has, until now, been guarded about his personal life as a gay man. Over lunch in Los Angeles, where he lives, he initially insists that he has no concerns about his public revelation - but a few seconds later he is shifting nervously in his chair, and concedes that he is 'terrified.' ... 'I don't know what will happen professionally ... that is the fear, but I guess I can't really be concerned about what will happen, because it's my truth. There is this desire in L.A. to wonder who you are and what's been blaring for me for the last three years is how can I be most authentic to myself - so this is the first time I am speaking about it in this way.'"
Macfarlane also talks about the big upcoming event [Possible SPOILER] on Brothers & Sisters:
"From a standing outside perspective, and also as someone who is gay, I think that it's a very exciting time. How exciting that we're saying, 'This can be part of the cultural fabric, now,' because it is two series regulars, two people that you invite into your home and you see every week. It's telling of the beginning of more waves and I'm very proud of that...Most importantly, in portraying gay people, the more we realize it's just like portraying anybody else and, gay marriage, it's not about two people being gay, it's about two people who love each other and who have decided to commit to each other for the exact same reasons any other couple would get married. Hopefully, the more that becomes part of the cultural awareness it won't be...(he pauses and says, employing a mock, exaggerated voice of a television announcer)...a spectacular Sunday episode."

Was there ever any doubt?

There may not have been much doubt about his sexuality from us, but the same can probably not be said for many B&S and/or general TV viewers. The more people who are publicly out, celebrities or not, the better. Bravo to him for weighing the implications and deciding to put his integrity first. And he just happens to be cute as a button.

to the dork with the fake email address, I think the writers at 'Out.com' got the point I was driving at with their article titled... Michael Stipe loses "duh, he's gay" title to Luke Macfarlane -http://www.popnography.com/2008/04/breaking-michae.html

Wow! Now THERE'S a shock. I love Luke but really, this is no big revelation to anyone. Good for him for coming out, now let's all get behind him (no pun intended) and support his career.

We gays shouldn't be saying things like "a gay man will never play a leading role" - Look at JOhn Barrowman in Torchwood. We have to be less critical ourselves.
Love Luke all the way. I already believed he was gay when I first saw him. Now it's just icing on cake.

I think we're a bit behind here in Australia, but I'm so glad Kevin dumped the minister and got back with Scotty in the last episode shown here. They make a much better OTP.
And bravo for a gay actor playing a gay character. We don't see that enough.

So, what is going to happen to Wentworth now?! Hmmm!
Posted by: Nightwing | Apr 15, 2008 8:48:42 PM
Wentworth (who can't come out and play) should be so lucky to have a young and hot bf like Luke. I'm not bitter or anything.

SAYKE,
ditto on both counts. plus he's cute as hell, too.
welcome to the gayborhood, luke.

to quote Claude Rains in CASABLANCA, "I'm shocked. SHOCKED."

Wentworth Miller says he is not gay. If he isn't, he is on the waiting list.

No big surpirse here, but good for Luke! And just leave Wentworth alone. If he is gay, it's his choice to come out or not, and understand that it is not easy for an actor to come out, and still hoping for straight parts
Posted by: Dutchimport | Apr 16, 2008 6:28:52 PM
Is there anyone who thought he was straight? I am shocked that he is so fearful of coming out. I assumed he already had.

wow, i never imagined. of course i have no gaydar. i stopped watching the show just because i fell out of the habit. i'll be back to support such a cool guy!
