Fighting the Real McCain

Mccainad

David Brock's Progressive Media USA begins running this ad on cable today, according to Talking Points Memo.

They report: "The ad, called 'Out of Touch,' will be running on cable beginning tomorrow and can be seen in D.C. on CNN and MSNBC -- which is to say, it's a small buy aimed at an insider audience of potential future donors, political operatives, and the like."

Brock's group is in the process of raising $40 million to fund its media campaign against the Republican candidate.

  1. Its about time someone started showing the REAL McCain, hardly a maverick, and, a reincarnation of Bush. If this long, drawn out war for the Democratic nomination were over, the focus would be on him, and, its more Bush than anything else, and, so far he has gotten a total pass from the media.

  2. This makes me embrace Hillary, how twisted is that?

  3. It reminds me of the old video where they took Michael Jackson's press meeting and twisted it around so that he was saying the opposite. That was really funny.

This, on the other hand, is just pathetic.

I guess if you think you can't win on a debate of the issues, you resort to snippits of video. Sad.

  4. Funny how there's no difference between Hillary Clinton and John McCain on their attacks against Obama; funny how there's no difference between Hillary Clinton and John McCain on their votes to invade Iraq; and it's funny how Hillary Clinton is lying when she states that she will take us out of the war into which she put this country. Obama is the only one I trust to get us out of Iraq.

And I can't understand why self-respecting gays would support Hillary: she defended DOMA & DADT; she supported the firing of Joycelyn Elders for trying to address the AIDS crisis by getting real; and she's a member of one of the most homophobic church -- United Methodist Church -- in the country.

The United Methodist Church condemns gay marriage, gay clergy & gay sexuality. In fact, the United Methodist Church to which Hillary belongs and otherwise supports has held church trials akin to the Salem witch hunts to expose gay clergy who promote the "gay agenda" in violation of United Methodist Church doctrine, and has been a frequent target of Soulforce direct actions.

On April 23, 2008 Soulforce is protesting the United Methodist Church at its general conference where it intends on voting to defrock a pastor who had a sex change.

Hillary previously has spoken at general conferences of the United Methodist Church at which anti-gay laws were passed. Why doesn't she condemn, denounce & reject the offensive gay hate statements and policies of her church.

In contrast, the church to which Obama belongs -- the United Church of Christ -- blesses gay marriage and ordains gay clergy.

  5. I long ago decided I'm not going to vote for him, you don't have to keep trying to convince me.

  6. So sad that this nasty organization will raise all of this money to run a bullshit campaign against a great American hero. Despite the claims of the two Democrat candidates, it's clearer and clearer that their supporters don't really want a campaign of issues; they just want to call Republicans names.

  7. For those who are unfamiliar with Soulforce -- one of the few LGBT activist groups out there these days engaging in nonviolent civil disobediance -- check out their website: http://www.soulforce.org/article/1314

Soulforce repeatedly has targeted Hillary's church for its gay hate:

1999 - Soulforce staged a direct action at the UMC Church Trial of the Rev. Jimmy Creech who was defrocked for performing same-gender marriages.

2000 - At the General Conference of the United Methodist Church in Cleveland, Ohio, almost 200 Soulforce volunteers were arrested in a nonviolent direct action. Prominent participants included Arun Gandhi, Yolanda King, the Rev. James Lawson, and the Rev. Phil Lawson. Two United Methodist Bishops were among those who volunteered to submit to arrest.

March 2004 - Soulforce conducted a direct action at the UMC Church Trial of the Rev. Karen Dammann, put on trial for being a "self-avowed" lesbian, but found "not guilty."

May 2004 - Soulforce was at the 2004 General Conference. Church legislation was passed supporting civil legislation banning same-gender marriage. More anti-LGBT language was added to the church's Book of Discipline (book of church laws), especially related to church trials. Attempts to recognize dissenting opinions in the church were rejected. In response, Soulforce led a nonviolent mass disruption of the General Conference during its final days.

December 2004 - Soulforce vigiled at the UMC Church Trial of the Rev. Beth Stroud. Beth was stripped of her clergy credentials by the Trial Court, but has continued to be employed by her local congregation as a lay minister.

June 2007 - President Bush nominated Dr. James W. Holsinger as Surgeon General. Soulforce issued a press release exposing Holsinger's history of anti-gay bigotry in his official roles as a member of the United Methodist Committee to Study Homosexuality (1988 to 1992) and as President ("Chief Justice") of the United Methodist Judicial Council ("Supreme Court").

Why doesn't Hillary challenge the United Methodist Church -- her own church -- if she is the leader and fighter she claims to be? Or is it just LGBT issues on which she does not care to fight or lead on?

  8. @ CYD: Just because McCain did heroic things in Vietnam does NOT necessarily make him a good candidate for president. The man is more conservative than his "maverick" persona. He is an old-school boys club creep. Oh, and a flip-flopper who now supports Bush's tax cuts that have only made things worse!

  9. If the Democrats are dumb enough to nominate Obama, then McCain will be the next President. And I will vote for him to cancel one of Obama's. Anyone who can't see through Obama by now needs serious help.

  10. Be gone, Racist Johnny Lane. Everyone already knows you would never vote for the black candidate.
