Is Miley Cyrus a Whore in Sheep's Clothing?

Mileycyrus

This is what makes a scandal? What's prompting forced apologies is Disney's fear that their billion-dollar Hannah Montana cottage industry is about to go down the drain. As evidenced by the Vanity Fair article, Miley Cyrus' generation is much further along than her parents' and their sexuality more fluid:

"Before I met Cyrus, an editor at a tabloid told me that all the celebrity weeklies have been ratcheting up their focus on her. With Lindsay Lohan rehabbed and Britney Spears under psychiatric care, the tabs are looking to Cyrus to flame out, or at least do something mildly outrageous. In December, some pictures made it onto the Net showing Cyrus and a girlfriend sharing what looks like a Twizzler and almost kissing, prompting a brief, halfhearted spate of 'lezzie' rumors. Silly. But still, I ask, did she feel betrayed that someone, presumably a friend, had posted the pictures? 'It was me,' she says, 'on my MySpace. For me, I was like, That’s two girls—it’s not a big deal. But they got spread around. Like someone copied and pasted and said, Omigod, look at this, and blah blah blah. I was just like it didn’t affect me. Everyone’s like, Maybe she’ll learn her lesson this time. Nope.' If she had been chewing gum, this could have been nicely underscored with a snap."

  1. South Park foresaw this a couple of weeks ago.

  2. I sorta get why this photo is causing controversy. I'm no prude, but a 15-year-old child shouldn't be photographed like that. She looks like she just got fucked hard and needs a cigarette.

  3. I'm with Crispy on this one. I'm the last person to act all prudish about a simple photo but showing a 15 year old girl in an obviously (if not explicitly) sexual pose just feels icky. Girletta still has baby fat in her cheeks... bad idea. Maybe in a couple years, but not now. Her parents should have been more vigilant, and her managers should have known that their bread is being buttered by DISNEY... those folks aren't kidding around when it comes to maintaining their squeaky-clean image... given that this girl has relatively minimal talent, her people shouldn't be making decisions for her that push buttons.

    Miley honey... invest wisely.

  4. You know, for the first time ever, I'm befuddled by a post.

    Was it the "lezzie" bit?

  5. Annie Leibovitz doing the photographic shoot-who would have thought? Her handlers should have and probably did know what the context was going to be. Funny- last week Ms. Cyrus told several media outlets after viewing the pictures-she was thrilled and was very proud to have been photographed by the great Ms. Leibovitz. Then today we get the Disney version. Who would have guessed?
Shocked, outrage--NO-publicity and America gets spoon fed lies once again. Eat hearty!

  6. If Jamie Lynn Spears could get away with her teenage pregnancy, Miley should surely get away with this one.

Besides can you say "publicity stunt"?

  8. Whatever, I like the picture. I think Miley is totally right not to let Disney (Or ancient sexist views of what is "appropriate" for girls her age) control her life too much.

  9. Dear Rodrigo,
NAMBLA called. They wanted to let you know that your membership check bounced and could you re-send it before the big conference in June.

  10. Cear Crispy,

Funny that you mention NAMBLA, because if the picture was of a topless BOY, no one would be even batting an eye. A boob is a boob is a boy-boob.

  11. Andy - the word whore is a bit too much for a 15 year old. The word shocked me more than the picture ever would, she is just showing her back.

  12. Wait a minute, hold the camera.....the girl took her top off and wrapped herself in a bed sheet....now she is saying that she is embarrassed at how they turned out and she didn't think they were going to be so suggestive??????

I'm sorry Miley, you idiot, you're TOPLESS WRAPPED IN A BED SHEET, YOUR MAKE-UP SMEARED AND YOUR HAIRED ALL MUSSED, exactly how did you think these photos were GOING to turn out????

  14. Uh, could we be any harder on this kid? She's a kid, right? Her parents were on set and were supposed to protect her!

Attacking her for the poor judgment of her parents is misguided. Kids make stupid mistakes. Calling her a "whore" or expecting her to understand the full implications of the picture implies that a 15-year-old kid is far more sophisticated than she is.

Andy, I'm disappointed in your use of the word "whore" for this picture. It's unfair to drop this bomb Cyrus. Again, her parents were at the shoot and it was their responsibility to protect here. Moreover, given the power of Disney, where were the suits to protect her?

"Protect"! That is the word that seems to be missing from most comments. Adults are supposed to defend their children from exploitation.

People, criticizing this girl makes no sense. Toss it at her parents, the photographers, and the magazine staff for failing to act responsible for the welfare of child.

It's always fascinating to see how girls are called sluts and whores so easily. Sorta like in those "less" sophisticated countries where women are forced to wear head-to-toe coverings. Iran has morals police to denigrate, beat and jail women. And, we have...

  15. I agree with Mike and Noah. The word 'whore' in the title is quite inappropriate and stronger than required. Andy you don't have to make witty titles by sacrificing good taste.

  16. Does anyone else think she looks like the girl in the Exorcist before she fully turns?

  17. Why does Vanity Fair care about Miley anyway?

How was this appropriate in any regard?

Billy Ray needs a parenting class.

  19. I think it's a beautiful portrait regardless of her age. She's adult enough to be photographed this way. Her family doesn't have a problem with it; so, why should we? It's not pornographic. Quite the contrary. It appears much more a painting than anything else. Cherubic, vulnerable, even sad. I don't see any sexuality in it whatsoever. The muted tones/colors in the photo give it a very dark, quite appeal. It's very classic. Drapery is used quite often in portraits; so what of her back? And the hair is tossled like that of a young mare, free. Readers will take what they want, but artisically it's much more an emotional than a physical photograph.

  20. While I suppose this photo shouldn't have happened, it did; and in that regard I am in complete agreement with Michael about the photo's aesthetic. It reminds me of a Vermeer and is shot in the old "Dutch Masters" portraiture style. Although I'm sort of with Crispy, in that if this was a Vermeer, he totally railed her really hard before he began painting.

  21. Sell the Disney stock now before the tramps bait vids show up on stickam.

She is a gutter whore, just like her trashy friends. Age is no protection from loose morals and loose vaginas.

People upset over this picture and amazingly naive. This is not even the tip of the iceberg compared to what is going to come out soon.

  22. One of the reasons we have parents is so they can lead us. She's a minor trying to grow up and is not expected to always mk the best of decisions.

Wow - saying or calling a 15 yr old a whore in sheeps clothing is not the wisest decision to be made by an adult person.

See we're alway learning & making mistakes no matter what age - your title is filthy and disgusting to say the very least, I guess whatever brings the readers - huh?

  23. This young 15 year old girl, is destined to be Britney Spears, and go sexual and party, and screw it all up in life.

Her parents were present at the shoot? Sick People only feeding off their 15 year old's fame.

Disney is no innocent victim in this.

Disney spends millions, making a child look sexy, but in THEIR own Disney cute way. Nasty for a 15 year old is just that, even in Disney versions of alleged sexual exploitation of minors.

No wonder the famed Hanna Montana, has gone for the Porno look.

PeTA ads do this all the time with stars showing Nudity scenes.

    SHAMEFUL for all involved.

  24. shouldn't we be over killing the messenger? in light of this photo and another one with billy ray and his daughter posed in an almost incestuous affect, why should andy be castigated for extending the metaphor of a slime-ball father pimping out his adolescent daughter?

vermeer? give me a fucking break!

this is not to blame the child. this girl was failed first by her parents, then by her star-struck grandmother, then by her publicist, then by the photographer, and finally, by the magazine. this was a gang rape by opportunists piling on the gravy train. if the adults are not ashamed, then i am ashamed for them.

    disgusting.

  25. just a thought and im not at all religious but this came to my head wasnt Mary the mother of Christ only 15 when she birthed him granted she was a "Virgin" but i think its funny that a 15 year old naked back is so controversial while a 15 year old vagina popped out what is believed to be the savior of the world just thought it was kinda interesting
