road.jpg Publishers Weekly on the state of gay book publishing: "In my view, it is clear that today there is less and less visible publishing of gay and lesbian books. Carroll & Graf, Alyson and Harrington Park Press—in recent years the most energetic publishers of gay/lesbian fiction and nonfiction—have all either failed, drastically reduced their list of GLBT titles, or have been undergoing serial management/ownership changes. As for what most folks would consider the mainstream publishing houses, they are publishing far less of what could credibly be labeled 'gay or lesbian books' than they were 10 years ago. But what I find more distressing is that even those books that they do publish are packaged and promoted in such a way as to downplay or ignore the gay or lesbian aspect of the book."

road.jpg McCain wooing conservatives with promises on judges: "McCain promised to appoint judges who, in the mold of Roberts and Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito, are likely to limit the reach of the Roe v. Wade decision that legalized abortion. 'They would serve as the model for my own nominees if that responsibility falls to me,' McCain said in his prepared speech."

road.jpg McCain aides attribute Hagee endorsement to "poor vetting": "McCain’s aides attribute the Hagee controversy to poor vetting. But even some Republicans (not affiliated with the campaign) privately wonder how the pastor’s extreme views slipped through without notice. McCain personally wooed Hagee for more than a year." Frank Rich: "Any 12-year-old with a laptop could have vetted this preacher in 30 seconds, tops."

road.jpg Filipino Cardinal bans gay Santacruzans: "Parishes that allow cross-dressing homosexuals to play female saints in religious festivals are insulting the Virgin Mary, the nation’s top Catholic cleric said Monday. 'We should keep sacred what is sacred,' Manila Archbishop Gaudencio Cardinal Rosales said as he admonished parishes for allowing male homosexuals to play Saint Helena and other female roles traditionally given to local beauty queens. But leaders of the gay community maintained that “Marian devotees” among them deserved a place in the Maytime tradition."

  1. Thanks for the info on McCain, who is spewing all sorts of nonsense and getting a free pass from the so called mainstream media. He's scary as all out as this judge thing proves, and, as long as the Dem's continue this divisive, blood letting fight, he is more and more of a shoo in, disgusting as that is.

  2. Rest in peace, Dixie. You will be missed.

Very sad news out of Provincetown. Dixie was a friend to everyone. When my partner and I would venture out for our annual visit to the Cape, he always greeted us as dear friends, even remembering the last time we were served by him (he knew what martini I would order before I would even ask!). Always quick wit and able to put everyone at ease. A memorable and gregarious individual, such a great loss.

  3. Does anyone else find the still from Tom Hanks' endorsement clip for Barack Obama of the sinking ship behind his head a bad omen? I can only hope I am reading too much into that odd symbolism; but it was the first thing that came into my mind when I came on Towleroad saw the still and thought 'that's odd?'

  7. I nominate McShame for stardom in a big screen remake of the TV series "V" as one of the aliens "whose human disguise hides their true reptilian natures." Bootleg video of him swallowing a rat whole no doubt coming to a YouTube near you soon.

And, please, let's start shunning the gay Repugs who intend to vote for him NOW not after. As close as the 2000 election was, there's an argument to be made that Bush fils would not have gotten close enough to be given the Presidency by the Supreme Court had it not been for gay votes. In fact, the Log Heads TOOK CREDIT FOR HIS WIN both in a statement claiming to have delivered one million gay votes to Bush and in an "Advocate" article:

"Log Cabin Republicans boast that the gay vote provided the margin of victory in Florida--for George W. Bush. Working in conjunction with the Bush campaign, Log Cabin chapters in Broward County and Tampa, key Florida battlegrounds, turned out gay Republicans and independents in droves for Bush. 'We know for a fact that what we did in Florida made a huge difference for the Republicans', says Kevin Ivers, director of public affairs for Log Cabin. 'Look how tight it was. We were the difference. The Bush campaign knew what we did for them in Florida because high-level officials told us after the election how much they appreciated our work. They told us what we did there would not be forgotten'."

We pause for a long, remorseless, huge laugh....

Despite the betrayal of the man he helped elect with print ads linking Al Gore to Fred Phelps [after initially supporting McShame in 2000], since being exiled to er moving to Brazil, Ivers has turned his grapes of wrath not against the Bush Reich but into full-time Hillary Haterade production along with fellow ex-pat and partner in slime, Chris Crain. Both, one still a Repug and the other an alleged convert to “Independent,” now support Obama for the nomination while claiming to now dismiss McShame because of LGBT issues and his slithering ways. Expect Ivers and Crain to implode if a miracle happens and they’re forced to choose between Sen. Clinton and McShame who is trying to recycle the Bush “Compassionate Conservative” plastic that Ivers rolled up and fucked himself with in 2000.

LOL I absolutely LOVED!!!!!!!!!!!!! "V" both miniseries movies. The series that ran for only 1 season, aghhhhhhhhhh not so much.

Anyway; The lizards would never take Mcshame as one of their own. They do have some scruples after all.

  9. Is McShame a character on Grey's Anatomy? Are they bringing Isaiah Washington back?

  10. ALEX, you are not alone. moreover, the caption reads, "loose talk can cost lives." and as we all know, words mean something.

wasn't the original saying, "loose lips sink ships"? i guess tom is being profound. while he is self-effacing and self-depreciating in the vid, he takes himself way too seriously. hahahaha urp.

  11. This is bad new indeed about McCain’s judicial appointments. If McCain wins he’ll continue the genocide in Iraq, just like Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama promise to do. Even worse, it’s unlikely that his nominees will rule against bigoted laws like DADT and DOMA. Both were signed into law by Dixiecrat Bill Clinton after passing with a crushing majority of yes votes from Congressional Democrats. DADT was even written by another Dixiecrat, Sam Nunn, what was then US Senator from Georgia and who’s now a close advisor of Barack Obama.

They may not even get to rule on ENDA, either the real version or the one that Barney Frank, Hillary Clintons campaign manager, slashed to ribbons or on the Matthew Shepard Hate Crimes Bill. The Democrats tossed them in the garbage to prevent Republicans using them as a wedge issue, in spite if the fact that they’re desperately needed.

Who knows if they’ll keep their promises to revive them? What if they treat them like they treated their 2006 election promise to end the war? The Democrats constantly vote to fund it and refuse to impeach felons like Bush and Cheney.

No matter who wins, McCain, Clinton or Obama, we lose.

  12. It's official, ladies: Michael Bedwell makes me wet.

Anyhoo, re "Does anyone else find the still from Tom Hanks' endorsement clip for Barack Obama of the sinking ship behind his head a bad omen?"

Not a bad omen but a statement of fact. We are going to lose big in November when the white middle class -- deprived of its safe alternative to Obama by Nancy Pelosi & her fellow crone-ies -- grudgingly throws their support behind McCain.

  14. Jimmyboyo: please stop projecting your self-hatred of being gay on others and thinking that racial "rights" are more important than gay rights.

Watch the space next for Miss Boyo refusing to answer the question and tell me to kill myself because that solves everything in his tiny-minded liberal world..

Why are so many heterosexual liberals coming Towle Road anyway? I mean besides the token link via Huffpo?

  15. MATT

    Peace be with you

Heterosexual? LOL I have never touched a vagina in my entire life except when coming out of one at birth. I sure am one strange heterosexual with all the boyfriends I have had.

Your words paint you as anti-liberal. Are you then declaring yourself as a Log Cabinite?

    Again, PEACE be with you.

Please keep your fear and hatred of brown people to yourself instead of projecting it onto white middle class voters.

    Have a nice night

    :-)
