O'Reilly 'Expert': Ellen Spews Contempt with Her 'Smiling' Eyes

Mccain

Bill O'Reilly brought a body language "doyenne" on his show last night to analyze the John McCain/Ellen DeGeneres exchange on same-sex marriage. She concluded that McCain's shoulder shrugs and looking down denoted a discomfort with the whole "gay" issue.

Ellen's body language told a different story...

DOYENNE: During the first segment she has this very nonchalant smile which she's smiling with her eyes and not her mouth, and when you see someone doing that — that's annoyance. You know she's angry.

O'REILLY: So she doesn't like the fact that he's not on board with her.
...
DOYENNE: I think that this aggravated her. She's smiling with her eyes and not her mouth. And usually that's a contemptuous look.

Of course, to Tyra Banks, "smiling with your eyes" is just good modeling.

In Ellen's case however, it likely precedes the dreaded lesbianic death grip.

Watch it, AFTER THE JUMP...

  1. haha. this body language doyenne has about as much credibility as the comedienne that olbermann had on to analyze the o'reilly blow-up video.

  3. How can you argue with science? And next on the O'Reilly Factor, why do liberals look queezy when I talk about loofahs?

  4. Well, it's still interesting. This kinda' stuff should be of great interest to actors, singers, dancers, gays at a bar--people who have to interpret and project emotions.

  5. I'm always amazed when I hear gay conservatives say that Bill O'Reilly isn't homophobic and anti-gay. It's even more amazing when they claim that he is actually gay supportive.

When I hear otherwise intelligent people make these claims it shows me just how deep delusions can run.

  6. You don't need a body language expert to see that Bill O is extremely uncomfortable around gays and with gay issues.

  7. This is total BS. I'm no expert on body language, but I DO know how to tell when people are lying to you. One of the simplest ways to tell is by his/her smile. Dishonest people smile with the mouth (it's a forced smile.) Truly happy people smile with their entire face. If you read anything that teaches you how to detect when someone is lying (and you can easily find many such articles online), the first thing you learn is that "genuine" smiles can be detected by looking a person's eyes because happy smiles are expressed with the eyes. Ellen isn't annoyed; she's happy.

I am surprisingly not angry as I have come to expect this kind of dishonesty from Bill O'Reilly.

  8. "So she doesn't like the fact that he's not on board with her."

Duh. Of course she doesn't like it. Who among us likes to be considered a second-class citizen? But she looked coolly forthright and confident, whereas McCain looked weak and sheepish, as well he should have.

  9. in whay way is that woman a doyenne? she doesn't look very old at all, and i'm sure there are many other body language "experts" older than she.

bill o'reilly is a stupid, stupid man -- little more than a punchline, really. the problem is that there are a lot of equally stupid people out there who still watch his show and continue to buy his nonsensical scribblings.

  10. I almost flipped out when I saw Tyra morph her face to smile with her eyes!! It was the second to the last episode of Cycle 6 of America's Next Top Model. One second she has a blank stare then she slightly tilts her head forward and is smiling...without moving her mouth!

  11. bill o'reilly really does a disservice to his viewers if the best he can do is analyze a daytime talk show host's body language rather than analyzing the news and current events he's supposed to report.

  12. This is what it comes down to, folks: Bill O'Reilly is perpetually angry because he was born in the wrong country and 70 years too late.

He sleeps and arises to the fact that he can never realize his dream to have been Joseph Goebbels. So the best he can do is be to television what Vicodin Limbaugh is to radio—a millionaire bully using his unique playground perch to stomp on the faces, kick in the groin, verbally urinate on anyone he dislikes.

And, of course, as all Pencil Dicks for Brains, they go after those who can't or won't fight back. They choose groups—women, gays, blacks, immigrants, "liberals" et al.—that have been precertified as easily-to-hate targets by the masses.

In an earlier time, New York's long defunct Gay Activist Alliance would have zapped them both. They would have invaded their studios, chained themselves to their desks or cameras or microphones, and generally so disrupted their lives that they would have been forced to scale back their demagoguery.

Is such contrary to "pure" "free speech"? Yes, but I am one who believes that a tax comes with Hate Speech and civil society has every right to collect it.

But libertarian Pollyannas save posting your dismay. The days of gay activists with balls is long past and blogs have become the opiate of the people.

  13. I agree that McCain looks like he'd rather be discussing ANYTHING else but gay marriage. I really get the impression that he has old fashioned values about gays but that he's not very proud of them.

Which is good news for us.

I very much doubt that he's going to out campaigning against us as part of his election efforts. And his support for "contracts" (whatever that means) is really pissing off the haters.

  14. Michael Bedwell,

There sure was a lot of Hate Speech in your last comment. What "tax" should civil society collect from you?

    Posted by: Timothy | May 28, 2008 4:27:50 PM

  15. I really think McCain's obvious discomfort during the interview comes not from simple homophobia but from his shame about the anti-gay policy position he has been forced to take to secure his party's nomination. As on many other issues, he is a sellout and he knows it.

People like Bush and McCain do what they have to do politically, and definitely deserve our contempt and opposition, but on a personal level I don't think either one actually dislikes gay people.

  16. Michael Bedwell, I wouldn't worry. Speaking as one of the Gay Activist Allaince protesters from long ago I can only say we're in a very different world now. Back then we had to scream and shout just to get people's attention to the fact that we exist. Today gays and lesbians are increasingly out and proud and LBGT issues are everywhere. Moreover Ellen is one of the most popular people in show business. O'Loufa's deperate attempt to pathologize her is Beyond Pathetic. No one is listening to him, save diehard Faux News zombies.

  17. Anything O'Reilly touches turns to stupid. This is no exception.

  18. i've learned to pick up on a little bit of body language and while i don't know the experts credibility, she was wright that Ellen wasn't very pleased with McCain and he looked like he was afraid to look up because he thought he was going to get beat or whipped

    Posted by: Pekemo | May 29, 2008 12:59:22 AM

  19. Of course he doesn't agree with her!
Is O'Reilly stupid? It's a discussion about equality!
I smile with my eyes everytime I meet someone with a stick up their ass like McCain or O'Reilly! Well, not really since I can't usually hold my contempt in...
