2(x)ist Passes Mario Lopez Over for Bicep Rival Nick Adams

Page Six reports today that the behind-the-scenes feud between A Chorus Line's Mario Lopez and co-star Nick Adams that began when Lopez allegedly requested that Adams cover up in their scenes together as to avoid being upstaged, has been taken one step further:

"Now the rivalry between the hunks has been pumped up with word that the men's-underwear company 2(x)ist has decided it wants Adams front and center in a shirtless ad and that it passed over Lopez. 'Mario was originally No. 1 on our radar as we planned the campaign,' said an insider. 'We were ready to call him with an offer, but then we saw Nick. He's younger, sexy, more interesting. On top of that, his body was crazy. We set up a meeting, and when he walked in, that was it. We never even looked at anyone else after that.' Jason Scarlatti, 2(x)ist's creative director, gave final approval. He told us, 'Nick's very masculine, sexy, modern. It's totally all about his body. Mario is a good-looking guy, but Nick had it. He's up and coming, the new face of sexy. He's original. He's hot.' The ad campaign was shot in one day at Via Della Pace restaurant in the East Village. The series of shots shows Adams in an unbuttoned tuxedo shirt, a bow tie and underwear. It will appear in Out's August issue first and then in other magazines."

Above, a shot of Adams in 2(x)ist posted on his website the day of his photo shoot last month. Below, Lopez and Adams in A Chorus Line (photo via Broadway World).

  1. If you cover up Lopez's face he's hot! Adams is hot head to toe!

  2. To each his own. I prefer a guy with a little mileage on him.

  3. Um... not to be the voice of cynicism here but I think it's safe to assume that Mario Lopez would have been considerably more expensive for 2(X)ist. Silly publicists... They're both beautiful however.

  4. I have to agree that Mario was unlikely ever going to do a campaign for 2(x)ist.

The model looks great, but the red briefs are HIDEOUS!

  5. Butter face.. but her face. I suggest a lot of night games with low lighting. That first shot is well light and he sort of looks like young Al Pachino. The rest bag it. Great body and a face to protect it.

  6. If you believe that Mario Lopez is not beautiful in the face and the body than you are obviously BLIND! Nick is hot as well, but let us bask in the hotness that is Mario!!!

  7. OK has the craving for publicity and getting your name in the paper been so reduced that now we have people fighting about being photgraphed in underwear???

How is this relevant or important in ANY aspect of anyone's life??????????

    It's fucking UNDERWEAR people!!

  8. My vote still goes to Bruce Vilanch.

  9. sure, he has a nice body, but that doesn't mean much to me when he has the face of a fugly twelve year old.

  10. How many people died in Iraq today?

How many Americans lost their jobs today?

How many gay kids were bullied this year?

This is just a stupid publicity stunt.

  11. Wow...Divas at war. I love it! It's like Bette Davis and Miriam Hopkins...with dicks.

  12. Andy,

There's no such thing as a "bicep". It's always "biceps", lit. "two heads". "ceps" must always remain.

  13. Zeke, I think you have that backwards. Mario's face is adorable, and as HOOTN said, Adams is a bit of a butter face...but his body more than make up for it. It's nice to see someone new. I'm a little saturated in the Mario department lately. (still love him though)

  14. Poor Mario, well can dry his eyes on my shoulders. And neck. And torso and and, sigh.

  15. They're both hot guys. Nick's 25 and Mario's 35. But with 2(x)ist's boring, PC photographs...they're models look more like Jockey brand.

  16. A lot of people died in Iraq; a lot of people lost their jobs in the USA; 2 girls were shot in a ditch in Oklahoma randomly and 4 Boy Scouts were killed by a tornado in Iowa. Not to mention all the kids killed in gang violence or who OD on meth in some gay club somewhere.

If I'm not wrong, people like looking at half naked guys to help with the depressing news. It's the circle of life.

  17. Ageists!

  18. Nick is incredible though, that body, yum. He probably has a big one too, you can tell by his thumbnails in the last picture.

    Posted by: davefromtampa | Jun 13, 2008 12:18:36 PM

  19. I'd take Mario over that boy any day. Mario's sexy, and, really built, and, i'd bet hung. I'd bet he's one good fuck.

    Posted by: MICHAEL | Jun 13, 2008 12:37:33 PM

  20. Why does Nick resemble a Ken doll below the belt in the first underwear photo? Shouldn't he be anatomically correct...?

    Posted by: yeahisaidit | Jun 13, 2008 1:02:26 PM

  21. there's no accounting for taste. one's a hot twink and one's a hot man. they're both in great shape, but one is more buff.

yes, the world is full of woe. however, i don't remember this blog purporting to be an exclusive source of hard news. i guess some debbi-downers will never be satisfied until there is a universal wringing of hands and gnashing of teeth 24/7.

as far as the boy scouts go, i think it was god's retribution for discriminating against gays. yes, i know that was cold, but is that any more outlandish than what the crazy fundies might say? i wonder if pat robertson has piped up with an insired observation on this tragedy.

  22. Mario! Anytime . . . Any place . . . Anywhere. Whoof!

    Posted by: westcoastkid | Jun 13, 2008 4:04:22 PM

  23. Let's see: Big nose, long fingers, can dance, and is openly gay versus surgically altered nose, stubby fingers, diva attitude with minimal dance talent/skill, and repeatedly denies being gay (although very "gay friendly" but minimally hung, according to reliable sources. [The gods aren't THAT generous.]

Game, set, match to the new kid in town; however, must admit that Mario really is purdier than a new set tractor tires.

    Posted by: rudy | Jun 13, 2008 6:00:28 PM

  24. Rudy, I absolutely LOVE Mario...but you had me at "openly gay." 'Openly' is good...very good.

    Posted by: Superman | Jun 13, 2008 11:10:32 PM

  25. Is it just me, or have all the gay boys in Broadway shows (like, for instance, Nick Adams) suddenly disappeared from sites like Connexion/ al.? Pressure from their bosses, maybe?
