Ready for a Virtual Brawl at Stonewall?

A flash game based on the 1969 Stonewall riots is to be released on June 22 to coincide with Gay Pride celebrations in New York. It's designed by Eric Orner (The Mostly Unfabulous Social Life of Ethan Green) and Jay Laird of Metaversal Studios.

According to Gay Gamer, "The gameplay hearkens back to the old side scrolling brawlers like Streets of Rage and Ninja Gaiden...Orner and Laird hope that the launch of the game will educate younger LGBT folks on the events that led to the whole reason we are able to celebrate Gay Pride today."

  1. Why is the gay character a white, preppy male? Shouldn't it be a drag queen, butch lesbian, or person of color? That's who fought the fight at Stonewall.

  2. They gave bubble buns to the cop in the neon blue uniform. I might have to root for him.

The white yuppies said "don't rock the boat"

It was the fabulous black drag queens that led the charge of the rainbow brigade

  4. That's fuckin awesome. I hope there's a drag-queen-throws-her-pump option

  5. The infamous photo "The Face of Stonewall" actually happens to show a white preppy male. But maybe the drag queens, butch lesbians, and people of color were smart enough to not get arrested?

I'm sure Leland will be along any moment to clarify. It's one of his 3 key talking points.

Turns out there is a lot of debate on who was actualy there and who was actyualy arrested.

13 arests the first night, One drag queen throwing quarters at cops, one brick thrown through the wondow, and a fire set by someone

Makes you wish they had camera phones back then. we are so spoiled with our modern tech

  10. I do LOVE the image of a drag queen throwing quarters at cops!

  11. The most famous photo of the Stonewall - published in The Village Voice, July 3, 1969 - shows several Preppy white boys, including one in Madras shorts, hanging out with the black boys, drag boys, and what appears to be a real girl.

And the shirtless character with the blue scarf around his neck, long hair and bell bottoms is a Hippie and not a Preppy.

  12. There appears to be a rainbow "powerup" bar underneath the health bar.

What fabulosity might be unleashed when the bar is full?!? The mind reels!

  15. Jimmyboyo,
I believe that photo was taken by legendary Village Voice photographer Fred McDarrah on June 29, 1969... so two nights after the riots began.

  16. I already could make this on my PC. It could be a M.U.G.E.N. type. Like when Peter Griffin fights Homer Simpson.

  17. Thanks crispy

Personaly I think we should focus on the 1st night to figure who was did what.

I really want to know why 13 arests resulted in only mug shot. Did the police not want to condone drag by mug shooting drag queens??? Hmmm

  18. damn

nix the "was" between who .....did

    add "one" between only.......mug

  19. Offensive is too strong a word, but this kinda irks me. It's an important moment and this game kinda makes it a joke.

I dunno. Maybe I've taken too many serious pills today.
