What Bush Appreciates About Filipino-Americans

Bush met with the President of the Philippines, Gloria Arroyo, on Tuesday. Hear what he had to say about his appreciation for the people of her country, AFTER THE JUMP...
You can't write this stuff.

I don't get it?

Oh wait, because he keeps calling them Philippine-Americans? Well honestly, after 8 years are you shocked that he's a fucking idiot?
Posted by: Jeanluc | Jun 26, 2008 10:26:06 AM
Uh, no, Jeanluc. It's that the only appreciation he has is that they're the hired help.

Guys, let's give the dude credit for actually knowing where the chef is from and not making a comment about Filipino ladyboys. Could have been SO much worse... [It's damage limitation at this point.]

He's trying to do Ashley Wilkes. He aint no Leslie Howard, honey.
I wonder if President Arroyo was thinking, "What an typical twentieth century 'Ugly American' thing to say."

...not only does he sound fuzzy and out of the loop, he manages to managle the whole concept of tact and diplomacy. He has neither...and yes he does call "them" "Philippine-Americans". because he doesn't know any better. I am quite sure he refers to African-Americans as "colored folk" and gawd knows what other ethnic groups are labeled in his insane, stoopid little world. Be gone, ,Moron! Vanish already!!!! Shoo!!!!!

@Jeanluc:
I think the "talent" Bush is referring to is Philippine-Americans' ability in the "domestic arts". How many affluent Americans have nannies, housekeepers, cooks, etc., of Philippine extraction? Many. Everyone has a right to work, that's not the issue. The issue is that Bush, and a lot of people like him, cannot see beyond menial labour for Philippine immigrants.
Bush is just unbelievable.

Really, I don't like the guy, not at all, but let's keep this in context. His well paid and highly skilled chef is Filipino. It's nice to know he actually talks to the guy about his background and heritage.

And, McCain is just as out of touch and uncouth with such a lame 'compliment,' and, there are posters here who say they will vote for him as well.

Actually, I think that the cooking staff at the White House is traditionally Filipino. But for Bush to sum up the accomplishments of all Filipinos into basically "they make me some good eats".....he's a frackin moron.

and lets not forget their expertise in the accounting and medical fields... and i always love me some good lumpia...

From the man who said to the Pope, "Thank You, Your Holiness. Awesome Speech" The nicest thing anyone can say about Bush. He's consistent.

The cooking staff at the White House is traditionally Filipino? LOL.....Err, um....nah....

i keep hoping that i will wake up to find that this anomaly was all just a bad dream -- that america did not elect this clown, that our world-wide reputation was not irreparably damaged, that the lack of common sense of the american electorate was not exposed. i keep hoping, but to no avail.
i remain convinced, though, that after november we will be redeemed.

We can only be thankful that the rest of the world knows that Bush is not representative of us, in general, as Americans. I can't wait until the Bush nightmare ends. This man is a chimpanzee.

LOL...
I saw them talking about this on Countdown last night. Olbermann's graphic on the bottom of the screen read "Oaf of Office."

"We can only be thankful that the rest of the world knows that Bush is not representative of us, in general, as Americans."
Really? I think a lot of people voted for him the first time because they did think that he was just like them, someone they could have a beer with. And I think he is like the vast majority of Americans-he's not smart enough to be President. I think people overseas just need to know that half of the country realized that in the first place.

He's just phoning it in at this point, right?

As someone who's grandmother is from Manila, I have this to say:
A) We're Filipino-Americans. Pinoys if you know us, but coming from Bush "Philipine-Americans" is close enough.
B) I'm not offended in the least. We are damn good cooks. :)

This dimwit/simian in the White House never ceases to amaze, did Bab's not give him a lesson in manners when he was a kid?? His hoof/boot is in his mouth every time he opens it, just a disgrace on so many levels.
Queen, some lumpia and ponset (sp) is always a good thing!

By the way, the executive chef at the White House is not a "he" ... it's a "she". And she is a very accomplished chef. I wish Bush had remembered about Filipino contributions in the health fields, but I think he was trying to make a genuine and personal statement about a much more close-to-home relationship with a Filipino-American, so I have to give him some credit. I say that even though he is a complete doofus and the worst persident in history.

Fortunately, they still like us for getting rid of the Spanish. Is this Imus related?

NIC
What are you doing in my dream? :-)
Did you ever see the SNL episode where gore did a skit about giving a presidential state of the union detailing all he acomplished during these past 8 years? Totaly funny and depressing at the same time
Posted by: Jimmyboyo | Jun 26, 2008 1:43:13 PM
Bush is a moron. LOL wtf.
how is someone great because of their cooking skills?
the talent? i KNOW he isnt referring about that malubay chick. Just because 2 people from that are filipino were in American idol does not mean that all filipinos are talented.
oh god.
