Obama: McCain Taking the Low Road
The Obama campaign has released a response to the negative attack ad featuring Britney Spears and Paris Hilton that John McCain began running yesterday.

Rather than using these silly ads, I think the conservatives have a better chance of de-railing liberals - and Democrats in general - by pointing to their bisexual double standard. The bisexual double standard lies at the heart of liberalism. It demonstrates the hypocrisy and sleaze at the heart of liberalism - female bisexuality OK and "hot", male bisexuality barely tolerable and certainly not hot.
The reason why the bisexual double standard should concern the gay community is because it is a means of oppressing anyone who demonstrates a male-male interaction. It's a way of saying "the male-male interaction is repulsive and should not be seen in mainstream contexts". In liberals' eyes, we gay and bi men don't fall into the "hot lesbians" or "hot bi babes" category. Just remember this double standard at the heart of liberalism and you'll have the best insight you could get into liberalism.

I don't resile one iota from what I've said. It's time the gay community stopped blindly following Democrats. Democrats - and liberals in general - have declared a culture war on gay and bisexual men. This culture war operates at the level of conventions and unspoken rules, the sort which prevent us from holding hands in public or modestly kissing our partners in mainstream environs. Have you ever held man's hand or kissed a man in a mainstream nightclub?
Democrats and liberals generally loathe us and want us to stay in our gay ghettos. Their acceptance of us is phony. It's a phony acceptance based on segregation.
The tragic thing is that the American gay community has put politics before principles. Therefore, it is too unwilling to challenge liberals on this issue of the bisexual double standard. Conservatives will do it for us, although in their case it will be more from a position of wanting to expose liberal double standards than out of any real concern for same-sex rights.

While I think it's likely to be a tough campaign and close election, the Obama teams' rapid response time leads me to think they'll keep ahead of the GOP attacks. As Patrick NYC noted above, Kerry stood mute while getting hammered by bullshit attacks, and never pressed advantages when they materialized. Obama is a lot quicker on the draw, and he'll need to be.

The Democrats lack a vicious, quick-witted queen. They need these types behind the scenes to come up with the zingers. The reaon they are not there is because liberal Democratic men are generally uncomfortable working with camp gay men with nasty streaks. Republicans, on the other hand, love the camp. That's one reason why Republicans have had better attack strategies in the past.

Jason, though this is as usual way off topic, let me state once and for all that as to the distinction between male-male sex and female-female sex in popular culture, you are not telling us anything we don't know.
It is sexism and heterosexism and the patriarchy at work and it has NOTHING to do with Democrats or Republicans of Liberals or US Politics AT ALL.
I am now studying gay films from former Yugoslavia -- pretty far from US politics. And guess what: lesbians are eroticized and shown naked in long beautiful shots, while men are never shown naked and only have one brief kiss. If you think liberal Democrats are to blame for films made in Bosnia, you're crazier than we think.
Now you may be right about the vicious queens in the Republican party. Closeted queens are probably more vicious than the out gay men who can work in the Democratic party. And I'd be pretty vicious too if I had to work around people who hate me for who I am.
