Breaking: Four Arrested in Obama Assassination Plot

The FBI said Monday night that at least four people were under arrest on firearms and drug charges in connection with a possible plot to kill Barack Obama during his speech accepting the Democratic presidential nomination on Thursday night. The U.S. attorney’s office in Denver has scheduled a news conference for Tuesday afternoon to discuss its investigation.

Must have been that vast right wing conspiracy…the only thing that surprises me is that it took this long..I thought sure someone would take a shot at him in the primaries.

  2. Bosie says

whow crazy people …I’m sure they are nazi-religious-right…those people are wild on their ideas and ways.

    From the NY Times:

“Over the weekend, The Detroit Free Press ran a chart showing how people responded when asked if they agreed with the statement that “there are people who want to hurt Barack Obama because of his race and sometimes I fear for his safety.” Fifty-seven percent agreed.”

So, how will this impact his popularity? Will people not vote for him because they fear he will be assassinated? Who knows?

Suspected white supremacists due to identifying white supremacist tattoos.

Kudos needs to go out to local police who caught the first 2 at a routine traffic stop and suspected something was up due to the contents of their car. Meth high contributed to an easy confession leading to the other arrests. 1 suspect jumped from a window in trying to flee police.

Possibly 6 now. Sniper sight rifles (750 yrd range = 2,250 feet range), past convictions, meth, possible fake ids, and possibly caught with bullet proof vests.

Again kudos to local police and routine traffic stops

One reporter at the convention has mentioned that yesterday during michele’s light check scene she said “pray for us” and was extremely serious and nothing like her earlier joking style. The reporter has said in hindsight now he understands why.

I wonder if people understand that this is something that “black folk” have talked about already. We knew this type of thing would happen, and will likely continue to happen. I’m sure Barack and Michelle had several talks about this before he even decided to run. Colin Powell’s wife didn’t want him to run for fear of him being killed.

This type of act, unfortunately, comes with the territory Barack has stepped into. Why is he subject to this? Because of characteristics of his phenotype. Which is a fancy way of saying, because he is black.

I will never forget one of the greatest quotes I’ve ever heard. It came from Toni Morrison.

“When you know someone’s race that is the least information you have.”

But as long as humans continue to see, these issues of race will be a problem. And if we all became blind one day, I’m sure we would find yet another way to separate ourselves.

This story and the reaction to it are nonsense.

It’s already been updated that there was never any “credible threat” to Obama. Isn’t it patently clear these were a bunch of ignorant, big-talking losers with no real plan to cause him any harm? I feel like anyone who is hanging on the edge of their seat worrying about him being assassinated is contributing to the possibility that he will be. It’s called being a concern troll. “Oh, I hope this never happens…oh, my gosh, it happened, I knew it would.”

Why would Barack Obama be any more likely to get shot at than some of the most controversial politicians of recent times (why not Bush or Cheney or what about Hillary, some people hate her guts, yo, or what about any of the Supreme Court Justices)? Because he’s black? The last national political figures assassinated were killed 40 years ago. Give me a break, the man is going to be fine.

And on a sidenote, it’s no good reason not to vote for him—if he were killed, you’d have Biden stepping in, and then Pelosi, etc. A Democrat is a Democrat, stick with your own party. The assassination game is just like the familiar game Democrats play when they say, “Oh, we Democrats always louse up our own chances!” thereby contributing to a negativity that lo and behold louses up our chances. Grow some Republican balls, boys and girls, we need ’em.

I would not call any of the presidential assassins we’ve had “sane”. They all seemed like loner/loser types, though Garfield’s assassin was perhaps just angry at his being passed over for a job.

You are over simplifying and being overly dismissive as if these people were a bunch of kids planning on playing tidlywinks.

True, the US atty Troy Eid “declined to elaborate on Monday but said there is no credible threat to the party’s convention or to the freshman Illinois senator, who was campaigning in Kansas City Monday and traveling to Montana today.”

What do you expect him to say?

“Ahhhh the sky is falling, put Obama in a bunker and cancel the convention. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh”

Come on now. He will officialy talk about it and provide details at 4:00 this afternoon.

kids playing tidlywinks = don’t have high powered rifles with sighting scopes within city limits (especially when it is illegal for felons to have even a simple handgun), wigs, fake ID’s, bullet proof vests, etc.

Should Obama climb under a rock? NO

Should people be as dismissive of this as you are? No

In a city overflowing with extra people this week, the best thing is to insure that tyheir is panic.

Publicly playing it down while behind the scenes thoroughly investigating it is spot on.

Kudos to the police of denver, to the FBI there on the scenes, and yes to the US atty. They are handeling this very well.

  10. Giovanni says

Actually, Matthew, almost every black person I know has expressed similar fears regarding Obama and I know some pretty smart black folk. Granted, it won’t stop us from voting for him but in out hearts we know what could lay waiting and still we soldier on.

On a related note it might interest some to know that in the world of black celebrity, especially those that transcend their perceived “place” in society (ie superstars), death threats from the white supremacists crowd are fairly common. If you don’t believe me check with the Southern Poverty Law Center.

  11. Paul R says

The Secret Service has already spent around $100 million protecting Obama and McCain, and has had to request supplemental funding. They are extremely well trained—there’s very little likelihood that several white supremacists on meth would have even the most remote chance of getting within half a mile of Obama. Anyone who pulled out any type of gun and tried to take aim at Obama would be taken out by a sniper very quickly.

Yes, I’m sure many people have given thought to this concern. I know I have. But I can assure you that the Secret Service has given it a whole lot more thought. That’s not to undermine the potential danger, but as much as I dislike most law enforcement, I give credit to the Secret Service.
