Nebraska Wrestlers Kicked off Team for Posing Nude on Gay Site

Paul Donahoe and Kenny Jordan, two nationally-ranked wrestlers from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, have been dismissed from their team after a UN gossip site revealed the two had posed nude in solo shoots and videos for the fratmen.tv website.
Said coach Mark Manning: "The history of behavior of these men, including the current matter, does not reflect the standard of excellence we aspire to on and off the mat. We have outstanding student-athletes in our program and we will move forward in a positive manner toward our goals. I want to personally apologize for any embarrassment that may have been caused for our athletic department, the university and our fans."
According to fratmen.tv owner John Marsh, the two had both indicated to them that they were hoping to continue with their college wrestling careers. At this point they'd have to apply to the NCAA at a different school to do so.
Said Marsh: "If Nebraska is going to be pigheaded and kick him off unreasonably, there has to be another wrestling program that's going to want him." Of the money they earned on fratmen.tv, Marsh said: "It's not money that they would be making working as a waiter. They get well-compensated. It's better than beer money...I'm in my mid 40s, and my generation has a stigma about porn. The kids, the generation of the student-athletes, don't have that stigma. They really don't care. They've come from a Paris Hilton, Tommy Lee-Pamela Anderson sex tape generation, Myspace pages. The shame and stigma aren't there for them. They're mostly worried about what their parents are going to think, because their parents think it's horrifying."

The reaction is overblown and all, but what I really want to know is what kind of idiot has a tattoo of their own name? What are kids coming to these days?

Kudos to the coach! It's not an anti-gay thing, it's a "YOU WACK OFF FOR PAY ON THE INTERNET" thing. I appreciated his comment, "They really don't care. They've come from a Paris Hilton, Tommy Lee-Pamela Anderson sex tape generation, Myspace pages." He hit it right on the head.
It is unfortunate that 20 years from now, we will reflect back on today's society as being conservative and modest.

BFD?
These smokin' hot stud boys have a lucrative career awaiting in Van Nuys, CA.
All they need is an agent and a contract and they will be wealthy in short order.

When I was the age of these two wrestlers, the older generation predicted the fall of western civilization because of our long hair, bell bottoms, marijuana use and casual attitueds about sex. Americans are notably Puritanical in their views of anything sexual. I agree that these young men did not demonstrate the best judgment, but then, who does at that age? I also understand that the university feels they need to distance themselves from this incident. However, I hope that another school will give them a second chance.

Jeez. It never ends. Ever since Eden. Grasping madly for fig leaves to cover our shameful and embarrasing naked bodies.
Sheesh. Get over it already!

Rad - it was the owner of Fratmen who said that, not the coach.
Posted by: Harrison | Aug 13, 2008 8:49:05 AM
RAD, the comment you commend, "They really don't care. They've come from a Paris Hilton, Tommy Lee-Pamela Anderson sex tape generation, Myspace pages." was NOT made by the coach, it was made by Marsh, who owns the Fratmen.tv site. Also, I'm not so sure his assessment would meet with widespread agreement in middle America. The coach apologized for the "embarrassment" brought upon the team, University, etc by these two athletes and referred to the "the history of behavior of these young men", which could mean they've been in trouble before. Of course Marsh (fratmen.tv owner) is going to put a positive spin on the incident, the coach not so much. I'll be surprised if any college or university will want these young men on their team. Not the sort of thing the often stuffy Alumni and Board of Trustees would accept.

It's idiotic and reprehensible that these two guys were kicked off their team for little more than taking nudie pics online.
But on the other hand, Paris Hilton now represents our generation? Yeesh, that's not something to be proud of.
I don't know who's side I'm on. I'm taking my things and going back to bed.

I get worried when we in the gay community do the pigeon-holing. I thought gay rights was partly about breaking through barriers rather than creating new ones such as "gay website". I've personally never known a website to have an attraction to another website of the same gender.
My own view is that these guys were posing for a website that many gay men peruse. But bisexual men do too. And doubtless there are some women and even straight guys who have had a look at it. To call it a gay website reeks of gay correctness, and is wrong both in semantics and fact.
Face it - we in the gay community have become definition twisters and word warpers. As a result, we risk creating new divisions.

Thank you for the correction. The coffee had not yet kicked in.
Posted by: Rad | Aug 13, 2008 9:17:01 AM
for crying out loud, JASON, you have to have something better to worry about.
I mean, North Korea has nukes.
Posted by: Dan B | Aug 13, 2008 9:21:10 AM
These guys were kicked off the team to avoid any further scandal. It is all politics when it comes down to it. Lets stop making it a gay issue.
Posted by: Philip | Aug 13, 2008 9:25:20 AM
It can't have helped that both these guys have had run-ins with the law. Sounds to me like they have presented other difficulties than mere nude shots. The coach blamed their "history of behavior." Some gay people will never want to believe this was anything other than homophobia, but it also appears if these guys had a cockiness that created other problems, too, in addition to making them so hot.

Dan B,
And there's more to worry about than me. Why don't you take your own advice on this matter?
As for the substance of what I've said, I stand by it. It concerns me enormously that we in the gay community are creating a form of gay correctness which is just as bad as political correctness. We've become self-marginalizing and self-absorbed to the point of losing touch with reality.
People spend much of their lives coming out of the closet. Do we have to go create new closets?

John Marsh should not be saying anything about their personal life and their personal goals. He paid them to jerk off and promised them cash of which he delivered.
These young men asked Mr. Marsh about this movie affecting their status in the NCAA and trusted his words because who else could they ask; but Mr. Marsh lied or misrepresented the state of affairs and backlash to them to get them in front of the camera. Now he is acting like their spokesman as well as one for their generation.
In truth Mr. Marsh leaked the story to get more people at the site. How many of you guys went all over the internet to see these guys in "action". These straight men jerking off, “They must be gay because they are jerking off” this entire gay for pay is lame and most of these sites are lying anyway to get your cash.
Now that it has been proven that these men are STRAIGHT, Frat.TV has more credibly than most of these sites now it is time to subscribe. Gays like Mr. Marsh are just as twisted and self-serving as their straight counterparts and NEVER forget that!!
For example check out the gay guys who run MANHUNT one is a REPUBLICAN! Go read the story at Out.com.
How many of you are going to drop your Manhunt subscription because he is Republican and probably supports many conservative causes (privately), hmmm, let me guess at the number less than 20.
The need to "get off" is greater than your so called principles and beliefs. Gay men still think with their dicks and asses and if you do something that stimulates one or both no matter who and what you are matters.
Now if you cannot do anything that gets the gay men off then it is all out ATTACK!!

My partner and I were discussing this last night. How do a couple of collegiate wrestlers in Nebraska get involved with a website that requires them to pose naked with a hardon and do a j/o video? In this day and age, could these guys possibly have thought no one would ever find out they were on this site? We're wondering how many more hits the site is getting since this hit the news...

I'd like to put Jason and Evan in a locked room together. They'd either tear each others' limbs off, or start picking out China patterns.
Either way, we all win!

Miami has a good wrestling program. (Frankly, they aren't going to become pro wrestlers, so perhaps they should concentrate on academics now?)

I just wrote a 'recommendation letter' letter for them to Kansas State.

Said Marsh: "If Nebraska is going to be pigheaded and kick him off unreasonably, there has to be another wrestling program that's going to want him."
Marsh's statements are off the mark. The fact of the matter is that it is NOT up to another university , but actually in the hands of the NCAA, which stands for NATIONAL COLLEGIATE ATHELIC ASSOCATION. The university that wishes to recuit Donahoe and Jordan will little pull when it comes to the NCAA Divisions I, II, and III Committees on Student-Athlete Policies & Procedures.
Donahoe & Jordan have a huge, HUGE uphill battle ahead of them.
1. When a member institution determines that a prospective or enrolled student-athlete has been involved in a violation of NCAA rules, it is obligated under NCAA Division I Bylaw 14.11.1 to declare the individual ineligible and withhold the student-athlete from all intercollegiate competition. The student-athlete reinstatement committees process
reinstatement requests for violations of Bylaw 10 (ethical conduct), Bylaw 12 (amateurism), Bylaw 13 (recruiting), Bylaw 14 (eligibility), Bylaw 15 (financial Aid), Bylaw 16 (extra benefits) and Bylaw 18 (drug testing). If necessary, an institution should contact the NCAA membership services staff to obtain an interpretation concerning the appropriate application of the legislation.
2. If an individual is ineligible under NCAA legislation and the institution believes the circumstances warrant requesting reinstatement of eligibility, it may submit a request for reinstatement to the NCAA student-athlete reinstatement lead administrator. An application is currently available on the NCAA Web site(www.ncaa.org) and will be
mandatory when the electronic database is operational. All student-athletes or prospective student-athletes shall be required to complete a signed Buckley Statement when an institution requests reinstatement. Any exception to this policy must be granted by the lead administrator. If the institution requires an immediate decision (e.g., because of pending competition), it should be noted in its request. The request for reinstatement shall include a statement that a violation has taken place; a statement indicating that the institution has declared the involved prospective student-athlete or student-athlete ineligible and is NCAA Divisions I, II and III Committees on
Student-Athlete Reinstatement Policies and Procedures requesting reinstatement of eligibility; a description of the violation, including the rule citation and amount or value of any benefit received; the identity of all coaches, prospective student-athletes or student-athletes and other individuals involved in the violation; the means by which the institution became aware of the violation; the reasons(s) the violation occurred; the involved prospective student-athlete’s or student-athlete’s knowledge of the rule in question; a list of corrective or disciplinary actions taken by the institution or conference; a statement describing factors, if any that might mitigate the violation; and supporting documentation. The institution is responsible for developing complete, accurate and thorough information prior to submitting an appeal to the student athlete reinstatement committees.

Donahoe is gorgeous enough to be a mainstream model. Abercrombie should be calling him up right now. Seriously.
This is just another example of how it's okay to do shit in this hypocritical world, but just don't get caught. Who knows what their fellow students do to make extra money -- drugs, stripping, prostitution, theft -- but as long as there's no photos, they are exemplary students and will continue to reap the rewards.

LOL @ 24PLAY
Oh my god, they're off the team! The world will end for the poor boys!
I never get the insanity around sports, particularly in our educational institutions. MOST high school football stars and college football stars do what after graduating? Who knows! What's all that adulation about? It may be a career for an infinitesimal percentage, but not most. So why should anyone care?
