Nebraska Wrestlers Kicked off Team for Posing Nude on Gay Site

Paul Donahoe and Kenny Jordan, two nationally-ranked wrestlers from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, have been dismissed from their team after a UN gossip site revealed the two had posed nude in solo shoots and videos for the fratmen.tv website.
Said coach Mark Manning: "The history of behavior of these men, including the current matter, does not reflect the standard of excellence we aspire to on and off the mat. We have outstanding student-athletes in our program and we will move forward in a positive manner toward our goals. I want to personally apologize for any embarrassment that may have been caused for our athletic department, the university and our fans."
According to fratmen.tv owner John Marsh, the two had both indicated to them that they were hoping to continue with their college wrestling careers. At this point they'd have to apply to the NCAA at a different school to do so.
Said Marsh: "If Nebraska is going to be pigheaded and kick him off unreasonably, there has to be another wrestling program that's going to want him." Of the money they earned on fratmen.tv, Marsh said: "It's not money that they would be making working as a waiter. They get well-compensated. It's better than beer money...I'm in my mid 40s, and my generation has a stigma about porn. The kids, the generation of the student-athletes, don't have that stigma. They really don't care. They've come from a Paris Hilton, Tommy Lee-Pamela Anderson sex tape generation, Myspace pages. The shame and stigma aren't there for them. They're mostly worried about what their parents are going to think, because their parents think it's horrifying."

Idk...I don't believe in gay for pay. i think they have to be a little curious to try it...even for money. were not talking "I kissed a girl" stuff...it is not an experiment. I mean these guys are hard...so they have to get off on it somewhat.

@ PAUL; Donahoe is 5'5". Since I worked in the Fashion industry in the past as an associate Fashion Editor, there would no agency who'd rep him. Last time I check the smallest guy working on ANY national campagin was 5'11. Just sayin'...

A Republican is owner of Manhunt, that is more pressing than any other news here!

Kevinvt it sounds like you where not good at all in sports or played in band.
Posted by: brian | Aug 13, 2008 11:59:28 AM
As a short guy (5'4") I am glad to see people drooling over a 5'5" man (even though he is a bit Abercrombie which is a synonym for generic in my book). I am also saddened that the Fashion industry is height phobic. We can use a few shorter models. I am sick to death of not finding clothes that fit properly. I am condemned to wearing pants that look like elephant foreskins for the rest of my life. Even with tailoring, the legs are never slim enough for my taste. :(

Yes: I'm a stereotypical "last one picked for gym" gay. But my main beef is why the hell sports gets so much $$ that should go to legitimate educational programs. Classical Greek, for example.
And Alex: come to Montreal! Lots of small guys here, and pants sizes go way lower than what you find in the US. 28" waist? no problem! (We're often amused to find that we have to get XL t-shirts here, when in the US we wear M)

Kevin, I share your inability to comprehend the inordinate amount of attention sports get in schools over things like say--the arts. But I just plain don't get sports at all. I can see why someone would enjoy playing them, but the whole following them, building entire group identities around them? It just goes over my head.
And I love Montreal. Seriously, I'd move there in a second, if it A--weren't scary cold (I live in New York and it's as cold as I like) B--easier to emigrate. Such a friendly town. I tend to do all right with the fellas being lilliputian and all, but it's disheartening when you go on one of these dating sites and 90% of the guys on there have height requirements I don't meet. What's worse, they set their cutoff point an inch above me!
Oh, and I haven't been a 28" waist in years. But I can't complain, I'm a 29"-30" depending on the pants :) I may be tiny, but I have nice flat abs!

What is the big friggin' deal? Like who HASN'T had naked photos of them posted on the internet yet? Or the least done porn (amateur or professional) yet? Seriously people, this is ridiculous. People (and society) are such prudes.
As someone who has done porn (at all levels) in the past, I can see how at first it might be some sort of scandal, with the school thing involved, but it will all die down eventually, and these guys will laugh about it in a few years. They will bounce back. And it's very vanilla porn at that. It wasn't like they were in hardcore porn being double-penetrated or in a gang bang or anything.
bitch, please.

In all the drama about these guys and what they have unfortunately done to fuck themselves over I cant believe that someone chose lazy grammar as the thing to get worked up over!!
I mean really... could anyone possibly believe that talking about a "gay or straight website" implied that the websites had a sexual preference??? Too funny. Its just typical laziness rather than some new-found self-destructive return-to-closet mode dreamt up by fucked up queens to ghettoize themselves again.
Rather than typing a description of a website as targeted by design as
"offering attractions of primary interest to a gay male, but with probable attraction to bisexual males, some confused straight males, the odd lesbian or two and possibly a whole bunch of straight girls who dont like straight porn", just to avoid any confusion or concern about the thought police, most people would simply talk about a gay website. Its not politics - its simple, its lazy and its human nature.
At this point I might have suggested building a bridge - and considering what was made of a simple two word description the bridge would almost certainly be a fascinating construction, although whether it would actually connect at both ends is up for conjecture - but Im sure it would fall on deaf ears. Oh well.
Sorry to hear about these two young guys. It seems like from descriptions they were both party animals, and they have both at least skirted the law, and it seems as if they have brought it all on themselves. Very sad for them, and perhaps it will be a wake-up call for them to shoulder responsibility for their actions and not shrug it off and try blaming it all on someone else. We all make mistakes, and we make most of them while we are young and still learning so I hope these guys dont get crucified. Whats happening to them is bad enough.

Chad, who hasn't done porn? Um, a lot of people.
While 21st century dating now requires one to have naked pictures of oneself ready to email, not everyone has set up a camera to film themselves going at it. And not everyone is super built and cute and hot and hung either.
This is the thing about that infamous Manhunt article I agree with. The line between porn and real life has been blurred WAAAAAY too much among gay men. I have enough to worry about without wondering if I am "porn" quality. It's a little disconcerting that the bar for attractiveness in the gay community has now been set at that level thanks to all the amateur porn and nude shots and commodification of our naked bodies and hard ons on the interwebs.
I have nothing against porn. I am also not an unattractive person. But I will never be a porn star and it's hard to see that sort of cavalier expecation being tossed around by gay men these days.
(sorry, just this rant i've been developing since that Manhunt article broke).

That Jordan is a monster.
Posted by: AJ | Aug 13, 2008 1:09:49 PM
Well its a good thing John Marsh had these young men sign a release, and I hope its a good one, because they certainly will incur alot of damages as a result of beating off for him. I bet they'll find someone to represent them anyway. There will be an attorney to take their case.
At least these guys will be able to eat now...they probably have spent their lives starving themselves to "make weight."
Still the disruption to their personal lives has to be so great that all the other moral/sexual/political crap appears meaningless. They could have lived for years off their wrestling talent ...coaching, etc. Maybe it will blow over, but I doubt it.

I have no problem with people who decide to enter into pornography -- and believe me that is very much what they did. Just because they were doing solo vids doesn't make their appearances any less porn-like. When a person makes this choice they have to be ready for any consequence. That includes public ridicule, being kicked out of school, and losing your day job.
Naivete aside, I think John Marsh and his ilk are partially to blame for these types of outcomes. It's a classic spider to the fly story. Marsh dangles the promise of money (and some type of guarded fame) in front of these boys -- and they bite. They really don't think beyond being able to buy "tons of cool shit" with that porn play money. I think Donahoe and Jordan should have reconsidered if they never intended on trying to pursue a career in escorting or porn at large.
The internet is a surprisingly small place and you can only hide for so long. Did they really think changing their names to Nash" and "Cal" was enough of a smoke screen? A guy like "Harry/Scott Andreasen" (who began with Seancody) was able to piece together a legitimate modeling career but he is the rare exception. Frankly, neither of these wrestlers are "pretty" or unique enough to go anywhere in that industry.
I understand that this is all intended as "fantasy". You know...the desire to play grab ass with the straight frat boy down the street. But if that wish fulfillment involves deceiving these kids into thinking "nobody will ever know" -- it's really not worth it for anybody involved. I pity them really.

LAME. Paul is fucking gorgeous. Any smart athletic director would have bought the rights to the pictures, had hot bitch boy sign another release, and then turn that shit into a calendar and raise some funds for the wrestling team. Publicly funded fire departments do it all the time and no one complains.
Posted by: AJM | Aug 13, 2008 6:12:19 PM
AJM - I have yet to see a fire department calendar with raging erections!
Alex - Here, here! The pornification of the gay community, most recently advanced by Manhunt's new feature that makes "stars" out of members who film sex scenes just slays me.
Finally, as I said on another board, this never happened when I was at UN-L in the supposedly debauched 70s!

On the bright side now they can concentrate on their studies. This whole episode cries out (as touched upon by the less hysterical and agenda driven posters) for a wider discussion on the whole gay 4 pay thing. Why do so many Bi/gay customers of porn reject any porn models who are even slightly "obvious" in their gayness? Why do the performers either have to have elaborate fake str8 resumes or actually be str8? Shouldn't the gay community be more concerned about the whole exploitation angle-granted these are not children-but the ones (not these wrestlers) who do hardcore on amateur sites: why are they treated so contemptuously by some, even some regular posters here at Mr. Towle's blog? Are these young men not someone's son, brother, nephew? Perhaps I'm just one of those 19thC, "reformers" who were eager to save the "Fallen women" (now in this century fallen hunks)from the poor choices they have made.

First off, I can't stand anonymous bloggers who feel the need to write "gossip" blogs and literally ruin peoples' lives. If you're going to post a story that's going to get two kids kicked off their teams, possibly even losing their scholarships, then at the very least that site should post the author identities.
Second off, the days when people should be fired for posing naked should be long over. Even the comments on the UN website proved that the rank and file students just didn't care. Why should they? What's so bad about a naked body - and, heaven forbid, sexuality. OMG Cum!! It's not as if there's any guy who doesn't masturbate, at least out of those who physically can. So hypocritical, so generational, so absurd and rediculous.

Assuming they transfer to another school, both men would have to sit out a year before they could continue their wrestling careers (NCAA rules). Of course there also may be an NCAA investigation into these pictures since NCAA athletes are not allowed to be paid for their images. So there's a real question whether either man will be permitted to wrestle in NCAA-sponsored matches again. And if it ain't NCAA it's nothing baby.
Posted by: SugaBear | Aug 14, 2008 10:01:37 AM
Boys will be boys... stupid decisions and all!
Couldn't they have waited a little longer though, I mean Donohoe will be a senior and Jordan a junior and Donahoe is an awesome wrestler. How desperate for cash were they? Maybe it was done on a dare.
The NCAA is VERY strict on matters such as this. Look at how they came down on Jeremy Bloom for wanting to take skiing endorsements while playing college football. You don't think they're going to ream these guys for something like this?
And Donahoe is a cutie! There's one pic I saw of him where you could just melt into those eyes...
Anyway, hopefully as mentioned earlier, they'll take the rest of their academic lives more seriously and put this all behind them.

Some interesting things the NCAA can do the University and the student-atheles:
1. The NCAA Management Council also has the authority to strike team victories, to penalize the school by preventing them from attending any number of NCAA championships and to access financial penalties.
2. NCAA rules stipulated that student-atheles cannot be compensated for any media appearances and they have to be within 30 miles of campus. LA is a far way from UNL.

It's just porn. Who fucking cares? Have we all forgotten that we only live once? More people (especially in Nebraska) should really experience more...
Posted by: Cody | Aug 19, 2008 8:05:14 PM
This who thing is stupid, who cares? These scarlet project people are plain losers. The school should have gotten rid of them instead of the the boys.
Posted by: Jamie | Sep 4, 2008 6:33:40 PM
Personally, I think all the publicity this issue has gotten is ridiculous. OK, Paul and Kenny didn't exactly make the smartest decision of their lives when they decided to jerk off on video, but I don't think ANY of us can say that we haven't done something stupid in our lives that we'd take back if we could. If the NCAA bans them, though, that's the price they'll have to pay. Regardless of their reasons for choosing to do what they did for money, they HAD to have known that someone would find out sooner or later and expose them. Obviously, the dollar signs outweighed that possibility. Unfortunately, though, as adults they must take responsibility for their actions and suffer the consequences. While I'm certainly not judging them for what they did, I hope the paychecks were worth it.

Would they have been excused if they had posed for a straight porn site?

Thank god for stunningly beautiful men like these who make our lives a more wonderful place to be. God made us in his image - MAN there's nothing like the image of a rock hard college wrestler doing what comes naturally!
