  1. "Manhunt co-founder Jonathan Crutchley declares the gay community "intolerant" for taking him to task over his financial support of John McCain."

Yeah, yeah. It's an old argument that's been debunked a thousand times before.

I'm glad I cancelled my subscription. It would be better to leave the money under my windshield wiper in the parking lot than to give it to that lame fucktard.

  2. Actually the op-ed on Crutchley looks like it was written by one of our commenters. Is James Kirchick hiding under an alias at Towleroad?

He claims we should welcome "people like Crutchley who are working to change the GOP from within." Has there ever been a hint that Crutchley has done that? Certainly he hasn't had much success in changing the platform or the views of his candidate.

I'm so sick of this bogus "diversity of political views" argument -- the president of my college makes the same claims, and it's always made by people who really just don't support other kinds of diversity. They'd rather have a group of rich old white guys who somehow have "diversity of opinions" in their old white heads (and I say this as someone with an old white head himself).

No doubt this Kirchick is just the kind of well-off, urban, probably white male Barney Frank talks about in the previous post.

  3. anyone know if andy checks his comments ? Cause the mobile website doesn't have the ability to send an email to forward to friends. Also does anyone miss towletech? I always thought gays were at the forefront of technology and the quick bites of new tech links was great.

  5. MTV's attitude to male-male sexuality is typical of this phenomenon called "phony acceptance based on segregation". According to this philosophy, it is OK to depict male-male sexuality but only so long as it is separated from the mainstream. Thus, we get shown the door out of the mainstream and into the area they've reserved for us (ie LOGO). It's like if you go to a mainstream club and the doorman recognizes you are gay. He'll then tell you that you can't go in because "this isn't gay night". It's the typical liberal attitude to male-male sexuality, and one reason I won't be voting Democrat. It's based on hatred of who we are and how we interact with the same gender.

Keep in mind the other discriminatory aspects of MTV's programming regarding representations of male-male sexuality on its mainstream channel. Bisexual dating show...no male-male sexuality permitted. Yet female bisexuality is "hot" and gets plenty of coverage. Discrimination, double standards, hypocrisy...the hallmarks of liberalism and the liberal media.

  6. That New Republic guy also says that Schwarzenegger is "one of the most powerful pro-gay publicly elected officials in the country."

Really? Because I live here and haven't really noticed that. He's pretty mum on the subject, except when he vetoed the marriage bills and referred to legislators he disagreed with as girlie men.

  8. mark, look deep at the hypocritical party that the GOP is and you'll see McCain is the perfect puppet

  9. Ah! So the gogo boy who was shot by San Diego Harbor Police DID have party drugs in his system!

Meth and Ketamine, to be exact. NOW WE KNOW.

Makes sense, here's how it looks to me how it went down: Hallucinating off the K makes Hirshfield paranoid enough to jump off a boat. The tina in his system gives him the strength to swim to shore, only to be intercepted by the Harbor Police, trying to rescue him.

They get him in the boat, against his will; he hallucinates on the K again (perhaps thinks the cops are sea monsters or something?) and the tina gives him the rage to begin bashing one cop in the face with a taser he stole off his belt.

Result: A completely justified police shooting.

  10. NBC's treatment of Matt Mitcham is no surprise but nonetheless disgusting.

    Posted by: Alex G | Aug 26, 2008 6:32:23 PM

  11. The blogs and most other gay websites are on fire with outrage over NBC not telling the full story of Matthew Mitcham and his Olympic glory. Towleroad, easily one of the most popular and influential hasn't said one word about it. Andy, if you weren't so wrapped up in the Democrat propaganda machine, or had you put someone capable in charge of the site in your absence, it would have been covered. You've dropped the ball here Andy, no better than NBC.

    Posted by: Mike | Aug 26, 2008 6:54:11 PM

  12. I should clarify. Usually something like NBC and Matt would prompt an actual post from Andy with a breakdown and commentary, not a afterthought note like in this post.

  13. DEMAND AN END TO THE INSIDIOUS LIBERAL BISEXUAL DOUBLE STANDARD!––Troll Australian Jason Now Using Screen Name Troll Mark

Very exciting development among the Towleroad commentariat!

  14. How is Matthew Mitchum related to Obama again? Oh, he's not? Then why would he be of any importance to NBC? Don't be silly.

Seriously though, Ive always been under the impression that American networks regularly shortchange 99% of Olympic events that don't mainly involve Americans. We're a narcissistic lot, you know.

Mark, I'm sure you have a point about MTV and bias, but to be fair, they do have gay men on the other two of their three very skanky dating shows -- Next and Parental Control (I think that's what it's called but I'm not going to look it up and make it seem to MTV as if someone is interested in the show).

  15. Considering how AHHHHnud financed his bodybuilding career it's no surprise he's mum about Teh Ghey.

As for Matthew Mitcham, Andy can't be everywhere. AfterElton is doing a bang-up job on that story.

  16. LOL 24 Play, I totally thought that was "Jason" as well til I read the name "Mark" at the bottom.

You're too funny. Like a detective on the case!

  17. ANON

"............based on a witness account and information learned through the autopsy performed by the San Diego County coroner, that Mr. Hirschfield was not the aggressor and was not involved in a brawl with police officers prior to being executed by this police officer."

In other words , though high as a kite Hirschfield was not at fault and the police were.

  18. PS

    LOL 24play and Paul

I thought the same..."mark must be bisexualy oppressed Jason"

  19. Jamie Kirchik is a typical New Republic tool. When he's not lying, he's taking on the pose of a holier-than-thou scold

    Posted by: bobbo | Aug 26, 2008 7:35:26 PM

  20. And here I thought LOGO was an attempt by Viacom to specifically target to what they see as a desirable market segment, sort of like Showtime (also Viacom) did with Queer as Folk and the L-Word.

Corporate marketers don't give a shit about "bisexual double standards." They see dollars.

  21. "...ruled a homicide."

Wait - didn't we know that already? I always thought homicide just meant "deliberate killing of another person" without regard to motive.

In other words, murder is homicide, but so is killing someone in self-defense. The police freely admit that they shot him - so I don't think saying "homicide" changes much. What matters now are the circumstances and the true motive.

  22. Michael Bedwell/Leland Frances
    Jason/Mark

All the batshit crazy motherfuckers around here have 2 usernames. I see a new tradition developing!

  23. "The death of a 37-year old gay man who was shot last month by San Diego Harbor Police..."

To the best of my knowledge, there is no resaon to believe that Steven Paul Hirschfield was gay. He was a hired dancer and stripper and from what I've heard, like many of the dancers in WeHo, he was straight.

    Posted by: Timothy | Aug 26, 2008 8:18:36 PM

  24. Crispy

    yes and no

Michael Bedwell/ Leland Francis = I like. But then again I'm bat shit crazy myself.

    :-)

Jason/Mark = you might be onto something with his whole oppressed bisexuals of the world needing to unite and all that jazz

  25. Andy's plate is rather overflowing, thanks. The real fucktard, as revealed by AfterElton, is NBC spokeman Greg Hughes and his network nakedly afraid to offend any homophobic viewers by covering Mitcham's wonderful and newworthy story while milking every crocodile tear out of every other STRAIGHT-related story they could unearth. Sound familiar? Cue time machine: "We don't wanna hear about any Niggra baseball players. No matter how good they are."

Appreciate Elton's efforts, but they identified the blatant bigotry and then backed off to a rhetorical, "why?" This kind of institutionalized homophobia in broadcasting generally and sports coverage specifically will never change if we keep backing down. If black, and their white supporters had, we would still have segregated baseball, basketball teams, ad infinitum, and Tiger Woods would be serving Mint Juleps at Augusta, Georgia's, National Golf Club not winning the Masters there four times.
